It was a bright new day at college, and Lapis eagerly made their way to Katie's house to catch the train together. They reached the door and gave it a gentle knock, only to be greeted by Katie's concerned mother. "If you're here for Katie, she's still in bed," she explained, her tone a mix of worry and firmness. Undeterred, Lapis asked if they could at least see her.
With a nod, Katie's mother allowed them inside, with a polite reminder to remove their shoes. Lapis compiled and made their way up the stairs, finally arriving at Katie's bedroom door. Quietly entering, they found her peacefully asleep. Setting their bag down, Lapis approached her with a gentle smile on their face.
As Lapis sat on the red covers of their girlfriend's duvet covers, Lapis started to stroke Katie's hair gently, hoping to rouse her from her slumber. "Come on, sleepy face. We've got college," they murmured, their voice soft and coaxing. Katie stirred slightly before rolling over to face the window, still in the throes of sleep.
Undeterred, Lapis leaned in closer, speaking softly to Katie. "Time to wake up, love. We don't want to be late," they said, their fingers gently tracing patterns on Katie's cheek. Katie grumbled sleepily and shuffled backwards, feeling Lapis sitting on the bed beside her.
Slowly, she opened her eyes and a content smile spread across her face as she recognized Lapis' presence. "Morning, sunshine," Lapis greeted her with a warm smile. Katie yawned and stretched, finally coming fully awake. She reached out to entwine her fingers with Lapis', appreciating the comfort and warmth of their touch.
It was now later on in the morning, around 11am, and Katie was struggling to keep up with her lessons. Feeling overwhelmed and in need of support, she reached for her phone and opened up her chat with Lapis on Discord. Without hesitation, she typed, "I need you x" before sending it off.
Within a matter of minutes, Lapis had replied with a message that filled Katie with a sense of relief. "I'm in the bathroom, waiting for you. Let's go home," they replied. Katie quickly raised her hand to ask her teacher if she could leave as she didn't feel well. After obtaining permission, she gathered her things and walked out of the classroom and headed to the female bathroom on that floor where Lapis was waiting for her.
As soon as Katie entered the bathroom, Lapis pulled her into their arms, offering her a comforting embrace. "Let's get you home. My house or yours?" they asked, giving Katie the option to choose. Without a second thought, Katie replied, "Your house," her voice quiet and slightly weak. She quickly put on her coat and retrieved her Airpods, connecting them to her phone.
After putting her phone away in her pocket, she set off with Lapis by her side. As they walked, Katie felt grateful for Lapis's unwavering support.
The thought of being in their calming presence was enough to ease her worries and calm her nerves, even in her most challenging moments.
It was later that afternoon, and the cosy atmosphere of Lapis' bedroom enveloped them as they continued watching episodes of "Our Flag Means Death" Season One. Katie was nestled against Lapis, her head comfortably resting on their chest as they both enjoyed the show together.
Lapis glanced down at Katie and noticed that she had fallen asleep in the midst of the episode. Gently lifting her head, they carefully removed her glasses and placed them on the shelf across from the bed. With a soft smile, Lapis turned down the volume on their laptop to ensure Katie remained undisturbed.
Wrapping their arms around her, Lapis whispered softly, "You just sleep, it's okay." Their words were filled with tenderness and care as they pressed a gentle kiss to Katie's forehead. Running their fingers through her soft and fluffy strawberry-blonde hair, Lapis relished in the peaceful moment they shared.
