Mary was indeed correct about Professor Divus Crewel, despite his intimidating stature and appearance—he did not leave them in the dark to fend for themselves. Aside from the starter pack he sent to Ramshackle, Divus had a brief talk with the duo about Night Raven College and how their temporary set up would be. As he was a professor, he wouldn't always be present to answer their questions and he told them they needed to learn the rest on their own. On top of that, he even gave Mary some starting allowance to use in the cafeteria.
"...If only the Headmaster is as nice as Sir Crewel"
"Guess we can't have it all..."
Yes indeed. If only.
Because while the stylish professor was extra accommodating, the Headmaster Crowley was the exact opposite. Today they were called in his office...only to be given tasks that had many veins popping on Grim's temples.
Headmaster had barely spared both a glance when they came, his concealed gaze were on some boring paperworks whilst a bottle of wine opened on the table. "Kicking you out of my school is more hassle than letting you stay and I don't want more problems on my stack to think about. You're not going to be here for charity though, prove yourself worthy of my generosity, get the hallway near the library cleaned"
And that was how the unusual pair ended in their current predicament of cleaning around the corridor near the library. Two persons were not enough for this job.
Grim was scowling deeply, he threw the rug off. "I'm going to take a dang breather, I'm tired" He didn't wait for any reaction or reply, just stalking away seething.
"...Hah...I can't blame him for being upset" Mary's shoulders sagged in tiredness as she leaned onto the broom she was holding, they've been at it since the start of the day and was barely done.
The only thing which made this ordeal twofolds worse was the students passing by without consideration. A couple of boys wearing the dark red-orange color scheme of Scarabia walked in the same corridor with sneers on their faces.
"Hey it's special snowflakes" came a jabbing remark from them, he snickered.
His friends weren't subtle too, "You must have thought you'd be given a princess treatment for being the first female student huh?"
"Sucks for you that only exists in fictional books! You're not in one" He kicked the sack nearby where the redhead had stuffed all the rubbish and dusts she gathered today.
"Maybe you were sent here to be the school cleaner"
"That must be it lol"
"She is so pathetic, she's not even reacting"
More snarky remarks from the boys as they left that hallway, Mary was tearing up from restrained frustration and hurt; her green eyes staring at the scattered dusts from the sack. She picked it up, fixing it near the wall and swept the floor again. She still needed to mop the floor and wipe the windows.
"Oy, you look like you're going to pass out" The unfamiliar voice broke through the long silence that followed as Mary continued doing her tasks without a word nor waiting for Grim to return.
How long had it been? She didn't notice anymore, her uniform was wrinkled and slightly dirty from the cleaning. She took off her uniform blazer, tied it around her waist for more mobility.
Lifting her head up to the person who spoke, Mary was met with curious eyes and a disheveled orange brown hair, this boy had a small heart tattoo symbol below his eyes and his uniform color was different from the guys earlier. "Hello, I was planning to finish everything before taking a break" She found it pleasant to have at least one person who wasn't hostile.
