Kris and Chen were engrossed in their game, their laughter echoing through the air. Meanwhile, Mother slowly made her way towards them, her pregnant belly causing her to waddle awkwardly. As Mother approached, Thunder spotted her. He stood up, his ears perking up in concern. "Mother, you look heavily pregnant," he exclaimed, worry etched on his face. Kris and Chen glanced at each other before turning their attention to Mother. "Are you okay, Mother?" Kris asked, his voice full of concern. Struggling to catch her breath, Mother managed to reply, "I'm alright, my dear. But you see, it's almost the 27th of the month..." Confusion etched across their faces, Thunder questioned, "What's that supposed to mean?" A smile tugged at Mother's tired lips as she settled herself down. "This, my children, is Flame's child," she revealed, patting her pregnant belly gently. "Wait, but it's only the 7th of the month, Mom," Kris interjected, a puzzled expression on his face. Mother nodded, acknowledging his observation. "Yes, my sweet son. In just twenty days, you will have another younger brother." Thunder exchanged a glance with Chen, both of their faces mirroring surprise and excitement. A new addition to the family was certainly an unexpected surprise. As the news settled, Mother noticed a change in Chen's appearance. "What happened to your face?" She asked curiously. Chen's paw instinctively from his forehead over his eyes and lead to his left cheek, feeling the remnants of the red wolf's attack. "Oh, that? Well, I got slashed in the face by those red wolves," he explained matter-of-factly. "You got WHAT?!" Mother exclaimed, her eyes widening in shock. Kris looked down, feeling a pang of guilt. "I know, Mother. I failed to protect him," Kris admitted, his voice laced with disappointment. Mother's eyes softened as she turned to Kris, who stood there quietly, tears streaming down his face. "Kris," she began softly, "did I ever say that you failed?" She asked. "N-no," Kris stammered, his voice barely audible among With an understanding smile, Mother stepped closer and enveloped Kris in a warm embrace. "You are brave, my son. You did everything you could to protect Chen and yourself. Sometimes, things go wrong, but that doesn't make you a failure." Kris clung tightly to his mother, finding solace in her comforting words. The weight of guilt slowly lifted from his young shoulders.
