We both halted. Me from surprise and Renesmee from – surprise, too?
A beautiful girl with purple hair up in a high ponytail walked in from another room, eyebrows furrowed and a spatula in hand and looking back at us with the same puzzled expression.
"Fuck." My best friend cursed under her breath. "Can't believe I forgot about her."
"Babe." The girl looked at me and Renesmee back and forth like she had seen a ghost. "Who's this girl? And why are you two's clothes all wet?"
Who are you? I skimmed her up and down. Her vibe repulsed me.
And did she just call each her 'babe'? Dear Yemaya, please tell me you're simply messing with my ears.
"Roxy, what're you doing here? I thought you left." Renesmee spoke to the girl.
"How could I leave when we agreed to meet here?" The purple queen replied to her babe.
"But I –"
"Disappeared. I figured." Her tone, worried. Who was this lady and what relationship did she have with my best friend? "And I've been messaging you and calling you, but you weren't responding."
"Sorry. My phone fell into the water."
The purple-haired beauty moved over, and so did Renesmee. The two met in the middle, hugging each other tight, forgetting the latter's drenched clothes.
"It's okay, baby. Thank god you're safe." The girl whispered, loud enough for my ears to apprehend.
I wondered if she intended for me to give an audience. She was looking at me the whole time on Renesmee's back.
"Sorry for leaving you like that," Renesmee apologized, one hand around the girl's waist and another, moving strands of hair out of the girl's face in a loving manner.
What in the waters was up with – her? Me?
I held back an urge to gag. As if I couldn't die right there at the sight of them holding each other so close. I felt like the universe was spitting on my face.
"I'm just glad you're here. Even though it's super fucking late." The girl glanced at me one last time before pulling Renesmee into a kiss.
A deep kiss.
One that was somehow brief but felt two years too long for me to witness.
A kiss that probably rectified all their misunderstandings . . . and worsened mine.
And she had a bad mouth, like my Renesmee. Renesmee loved a girl like that. They were a perfect combo, I guess.
"I was just finishing up making some food for you so you wouldn't have to bother with your shitty takeouts when you get hungry." The purple queen finally released my dear bestie from her deadly grasp of nauseating love.
