The next five weeks were catastrophic. It has gotten to the point where the council has stated that at least 39 percent of the population had been completely exterminated, which rapidly grew to 52 percent in a span of two days. The entire realm has gotten desperate as most of them have gotten to the brink of accepting their official demise.
Some even resorted to drastic measures to avoid meeting their fates so gruesome like the previous victims. Killing themselves before the Soul Reaper can. If they are getting closer to being completely erased, then they'd rather die by their own hands than by the claws of a demonic monster.
Ambrosius had just gotten out of an urgent meeting with the council and was informed about a recently discovered crime organization, who had been active and committing all sorts of illegal activities under their noses and have gotten away with it, were on their way to one of their usual meetings at the Glorodome in an underground chamber and that the Institute would take care of it. That was practically a minor issue compared to the Soul Reaper and what it had done ever since Ambrosius and the other knights went to the cathedral and woke it up.
Not wanting to have his mind racing with despair, hopelessness and shame, Ambrosius decided to sit at one of the benches on the side of the street and pulled a book out of his bag. It was one of the Soul Reaper book collection and he just started reading them after recovering and he learned one thing. The seven book collection is heavily based on the Seven Deadly Sins, each book symbolizes a sin in the next order.
Pride.
Wrath.
Gluttony.
Greed.
Lust.
Envy.
Sloth.
Ambrosius started off with the first book. Pride, the root of all evil. It was about a knight who sought for more opportunities to cause more pain and havoc and in order to gain more respect, glory and honor from the people. And outside the kingdom, the knight found a cathedral and saw it as a chance to pray to the Lord, for the knight had always been a true follower of God.
Until the Soul Reaper came outside.
"The fight did not take too long, for the moment the knight drawn out their sword and tried to pierce the Soul Reaper's heart, it shattered into twenty pieces when it touched its chest. Some say that it has no heart to pierce through while others say that no steel on Earth can harm it." Ambrosius read to himself, wondering if it was true and that trying to fight the Soul Reaper would be actually futile.
They were based on true events, but of course they could be rather symbolic than actuality.
It ended with the two of them making a deal. Being granted prosperity, recourses and an era free from danger, pain and suffering, to which the knight would forever be worshipped and glorified for in exchange for human sacrifices, preferably the most two-faced, sadistic and unprincipled humans that the knight had to offer. Allowing pride and credit to get the best of everything, the knight agreed. And if the knight broke off their deal for whatever reason, the consequences would be dire and impossible to bare.
Until rumors began to spread about how people mysteriously have gone missing and that the knight wasn't doing anything about it. Out of fear of losing everything, the knight stopped sending human sacrifices to the Soul Reaper and started preaching more about slaying monsters and calling them all sorts of vulgar names. Although the promise of a safe era were guaranteed, the Soul Reaper took matters into its own hands to eradicate humans and steal their souls. Overtime, the promise of peace would grow old and be outdated, as an era was merely temporarily and won't last long. When that time comes, the Soul Reaper will bring Hell itself upon the kingdom.
