Backstory: When Emi was 3 years old, she and her parents moved from Japan to New York when her mom was still pregnant with Takeo and they had lived in a small house. Her father then started working as a scientist at T.C.R.I. with Baxter Stockman and her mom started working at a flower shop and she brought Emi and Takeo since the owner Mei-Wong let them. But when her dad discovered what his boss was going to use the ooze, he didn't want to be apart of it so he quit his job but that put him and his family in danger.
So her parents trusted Mei-Wong to take care of Emi and Takeo while they had to go into hiding. Before they left, Emi's mom gave her a flower clip which she puts into her hair and she tells her she can remember her and that it will bring her good luck. And she has been wearing that butterfly clip in her hair ever since and she and Takeo have been living with Mei-Wong helping around her shop.
