If any of them shoot Jeonghan, I will light this entire fucking town on fire.
Bang, bang. Bang, bang, bang.
Shots fire through the air, and Jeonghan jolts beside me.
“If you stop, you’re dead. Don’t fucking stop,” I snap.
“They’re going to shoot us. We’re going to die. Oh my God,” he cries out, and I reach out, squeezing his hand as I glance at the woods in the distance.
“We need to get to the forest. Once we get there, we’ll lose them. Don’t stop, Jeonghan. We’re so fucking close.”
He shakes his head, letting out a cry as he picks up his pace.
Bang, bang, bang.
A searing fire roars through my shoulder as I’m jolted to the side, but I don’t fall off my feet. I keep running. I refuse to give up. I can’t, not with Jeonghan by me.
“Were you shot?” Jeonghan screams, glancing at me. “Oh, fuck! You’re bleeding!” he cries out, his pace slowing slightly.
I shake my head, leaping off the last curb and crossing the street. The sirens are behind us, the speeding cars, the constant megaphone telling us to stop. And the gunshots, growing closer, and closer.
I cut left into the edge of the woods, away from the small cabin in the woods.
“Where are we going?” Jeonghan asks.
“Follow me,” I growl. The sky lights up behind us.
They’re close. Too close.
I rush into the woods, instantly encased in darkness, though the sound of car doors slamming alerts me they are going to follow us into the woods.
I grind my teeth together, my body turning numb while aching wildly at the same time.
“Where are we going? The cabin is the other way,” he whines, his breaths coming out in small pants. “I’m getting tired, Seungcheol. I’m not going to make it.”
I turn my gaze toward him, keeping our pace quick as we race through the woods. “You will not give up on me, Jeonghan. Not now. You hear me?”
He nods his head, unable to say a single word.
“Put your hands in the air! We’ve got you surrounded!” an officer shouts, and I turn to Jeonghan with a pain in my shoulder and pain in my heart.
“Jeonghan,” I murmur.
He turns to me, and it’s almost in slow motion as he looks purely frightened. “Seungcheol,” he breathes.
“I love you,” I say moments before my hand shoots out, and I shove him as hard as I can. He stumbles to the side, letting out a yelp as he falls down the small hill.
And right off the cliff. Into the water below.
To be continued...
