When I woke up it was dark out, my stomach was rumbling and I felt a bit dizzy, how long was I asleep? Making my way to the kitchen I wasn't in the mood to actually cook, so I just pulled out a bunch of snacks and sat at the table munching on them. While I cleaned up my mess a knock came from my door, I was pretty confused cause when I looked at the clock it read 2:30. A bit nervous I grabbed a knife and went to answer. Another, more urgent knock ran threw the house just as I was about to open the door, nervously I swung it open and there stood Katy and Wayne, who looked almost like he was pouting.
"Wayne?" Katy spoke
"Im sorry for ignoring ya today, I was being a poopy pants and you didn't deserve that." Wayne tells me, it sounded very rehearsed and the way Katy stood behind him I could tell she made him come say it.
"It's okay Wayne." I say, he glanced down at the knife in my hand and widens his eyes a bit
"What was that for!" He asks making eye contact with me again, eyes still wide
"It's the middle of the night and I live alone, you don't go answering doors unprepared." I say, going to put the knife away, inviting them in.
"True that." Katy agrees stepping in, taking a seat at the table while I grabbed us beers.
"So what are yous doing up so late?" I asked, taking a seat, opposite end of the table from Wayne, even though he said he's sorry I still feel a bit weird about everything.
"Wayne was being a poopy pants and keeping us both up." Katy answers and Wayne grunts in response.
"You?" she asked
"Wasn't feeling right early, took a nap and just woke up." I tell her, taking a sip of my puppersWe stayed there talking for a bit before they decided to head to bed, I walked them out and decided to do some stuff around the house cause I wasn't tired, until about 5 am when I decided to lay down, basically napping again before I got up and got ready for the day. Deciding to go out on the job hunt again, I didn't think it would be so hard to find honest work in a small town, but I guess it makes sense, all the jobs are already filled. Around 3 i got hungry and again didn't want to go all the way home for food, luckily Gail was cooking.
I sat down at the bar taking a sip of the puppers Gail had instinctually placed infront of me.
"What bring ya to my fine establishment" Gail asks, thrusting the air as always.
"Was feeling a wee bit hungry driving around looking for work, figured I'd grab a bite to eat then head back out." I answered. she handed me a menu and we chatted, I ordered my food and she went to cook it. While I was waiting I polished off my beer. Gail replaced it while handing me my plate, and I didn't hesitate to chow down. After my food was done and my second puppers finished I decided to head out.
"Well thanks for the warm meal Gailer, but I better get back to the job hunt." I smiled handing her what I owe.
"Say if it's a job your looking for, look no further, Im down a waitress with glenn quitting, and the tables are almost too sticky to move a cloth across by the time Bonnie gets here at night, I'll put you to work." She tells me, I break out in a wide grin, running around the counter and giving her a hug.
"Thank you Gail." I say
"I'll put you on the schedule, but you can start now, your shift ends when Bonnie's starts." she tells me, I smile and nod going to put my purse in the back and grab a rag, getting straight to work.A couple hours pass and Bonnie comes in the door.
"Your early." Gail says
"If your not ten minutes early your late." She responds, then notices me wiping down a table.
"Y/n, you work here now?" She asks me
"Yep! started today." I tell her grinning, we go into the back together, her getting ready for her shift to start and me getting ready for my shift to end. When we exit the kitchen I see the boys sitting at the bar.
"oooohhhhh Bonnie McMurray" Dan and Daryl say in unison
"Hi Wayne." She greets Wayne specifically
"Y/ns yous works heres now?" Dan asked me
"Yep! started today." I answered
"Actually I just finished my shift." I finished.
"Well then can we buy you a beer." Daryl offers
"I'd have a beer." I replied taking a seat next to him. Wayne who was on the other side of Dary seemed a bit upset but I decided not to pay attention to it.We had been sitting at the bar for a couple hours, Katy and the McMurrays joined us at some point and we were all enjoying each others company. After a few more drinks mostly everyone split off to the dance floor, everyone except me and Wayne, leaving us sitting in an awkward silence.
"Dart?" I asked, and after a couple seconds of silence Wayne Responded
"I'd have a dart." so we got up and headed outside, lighting up a smoke each, for a little while we just sat there in silence, until it got to awkward for me and I had to speak up.
"Wayne."
"Y/n" he replied
"What's going on with you?" I asked him pretty bluntly.
"Pardon?" he raises a brow looking at me
"Last I check you kissed me in the back of your truck and now your acting like I gave your dog the size nines." I say, turning my body to face him directly. He stared down at the ground for a minute, making a grunt noise
"Well?" I asked only receiving another grunt as a response
"Pitter Patter" I said my patience waring thin
"Kissing on a girl as intoxicated at you were is not what a gentleman does." he finely says under his breath, but I heard him all the same, we were the only ones outside at the time so there was no noise pollution to drown him out.
"You were pretty drunk yourself there super chief." I say trying my best to make him feel better about it.
"It doesn't matter!" he shouted
"I kissed you back" I tried again to make his worries subside
"It doesn't matter!" he again shouted.
"it's not what a gentleman does." he said lowering his voice, this time to a normal volume.
"So you've been avoiding me, barely speaking to me, and keeping Katy up at night because what? you feel bad?" I asked, his response was to look away, down at the ground.
"Oh." Seemed to be all I could muster at the moment, this whole time I thought I did something wrong, that I said or did something to make him realize I wasn't someone he wanted to surround himself with. It was kind of funny, I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips.
"Whats so funny!?" he raised his voice again but wasn't shouting this time, I could tell that his feelings being discussed like this wasn't something that made him super comfortable.
"I thought you were upset with me, this whole time you were upset with yourself." I again chuckled
"Im sorry I made you think that." He looked away again, clearly not being good at the sappy shit.
"And Im sorry I kissed you the other night." He finished.
"I forgive you." I tell him
"Yous two done yet, Bonnie's pouring shots." Katy calls from the door, and with that we put out our smokes and finished out the night, laughing dancing and lot of drinking.
