3rd Person Perspective

-AFTER A WEEK-

"Le beta, Ek aur phone aaya." Jaan's father announced, causing Jaan to let out a frustrated whine. "Mummaa.."

"Kya mumma mumma huh, idhar baat kar." His father retorted, pushing his phone towards Jaan. With a scrunched nose, Jaan reluctantly took the phone.

"Ji, Namaste."

"Ji, Mai apne bade bhai Tanishq ke liye hi... haan-"

"Ji fir theek hai, Kal dopeher hum aajayenge, baat aage badhani hai ki nahi fir kal hi dekh lenge."

"Ji... Ji theek hai. Namaste."

After an endless loop of polite affirmations and talking like he was negotiating a business deal, Jaan ended the call, exasperated. "Papa aapne rishte dekh rakhe hai, to baat bhi karlo na."

"Dekh, beta, tere bhai pe mujhko ratti bhar vishwas nahi. Us nikamme ke liye ladki tu hi pasand kar. Teri itni jaan-pehchaan nahi hai logo se, isliye mai jitni madad kar sakta tha kar raha hu. Aage sab tu dekhna."

"Ji papa."

"Waise, Kal Jo ladkiya dekh ke aaya tha unka kya raha? Tu kal pareshaan lag raha tha isliye nahi poocha," Jaan's mother inquired from the kitchen.

"Mumma, bas pucho mat! I'm so fed up! Ek ka boyfriend tha to usne kaha mana kar do, theek hai. mana kar Diya, waise to bada mai haan karne wala tha jaise - maanogi nahi mumma aap wo ladki chai mein shakkar ki jagah namak daal ke lai thi! She could give us all blood pressure problems! Blood pressure ki problem de deti hum sabko! Chai banana to sabse aasan kaam hota hai use wo bhi nahi aata-" Jaan vented.

"Shaant ho ja, mera baccha, shaant. Baaki ka bata." His mother soothed him.

"Dusri waali to aur mahaan thi, matlab kaise koi ladki apne hi maa baap ko beijjat kar sakti hai? Uske mummy papa use bahar aane ko kehte rahe or usne kamra hi lock kar liya. Bechare itne sharminda hue-"

"Teesri waali naman pe line maar rahi thi, aur wo ghatiya aadmi line de raha tha- mumma, aap maanogi nahi, Naman ki already ek nayi girlfriend hai-"

"KYA? NAYI GIRLFRIEND? Wo ab Tanushree ke saath nahi hai?" Jaan's mother exclaimed in shock. "Mumma, Tanushree ke baad, wo paanch baar girlfriend badal chuka hai..." Jaan muttered.

"Ye ladka. Iski mummy se baat karni padegi-" Jaan's mother began, shaking her head in disbelief but was interrupted by her husband, "Tum kyu ghussa kar rahi ho bhai? The boy is a youngblood, let him enjoy his life."

Jaan sighed, pacing back and forth. In the past week, he had visited 5 different houses-to find one girl who would be a perfect match for his brother. But, unfortunately, luck wasn't on his side. None of them seemed compatible with his brother.

Don't get him wrong, It wasn't that they weren't pretty; they were. But Jaan knew well that prettiness alone doesn't sustain relationships. What they lacked was a sense of familial warmth and overall they weren't someone to take responsibility and marriage isn't a game to play where you can be irresponsible about anything and everything.

To add to his frustration, his brother would text him daily, inquiring if he had found "the one" for him.

"Tanishq Bhai, at this rate, ya to aapki baraat nikalegi ya fir meri arthi." Jaan groaned, collapsing onto the couch.

On The Other Hand

The four elders of the house talked in signs, through eyes as they watched their youngest, get ready to go to office.
