Hours seemed to pass while Val was in the bathroom getting ready for dinner. I, as a man, was able to get dressed in less than 20 minutes.
But a little less like a man, I was hoping (and worrying) that I looked good enough. I just wanted to give Val a good night before we talked about everything. It wasn't going to be easy to admit to her that we had to push back our wedding because of the psycho dick that raped her nearly a year ago.
I had on black jeans, a button up black shirt, and had combed my hair down flat. I even kept my scruff because she liked it more than when I was clean shaven. To top it off, I even wore nice shoes. I was a little out of my comfort zone but at the same time, I felt suave and debonair. Watch out everyone, it's 00Gaskarth.
But no matter what, I would fail in comparison to Val. I always did. I can't count the number of "what's she doing with him?" looks that we've gotten. A good number of those when we went to her family reunion.
I heard Val clear her throat and shot my head in the direction of our bathroom door. She stood there, light all around her making her look like an angel, and smiled.
She was in a dark blue dress that hugged every glorious curve on her body. It came down to her knees, had a modest neckline, and it was strapless. She looked classier than any woman could ever imagine being and sexier than any other woman ever could be.
Her hair was in a messy bun with chopsticks in it and her legs looked longer in the blue heels she had on.
I was more in love with her than I was with avocados. Wow, that's weird.
I need to stop hanging out with Jack.
Just kidding.
"Alex? Do I look okay?"
I shook my head and straightened up my shoulders in an attempt to look manly. "You look absolutely beautiful."
There was nothing cuter than a girl when she blushes and looks down at the ground. No, I'm not quoting One Direction. It's just true. Especially when you've been telling that girl she's beautiful every day for years and it still caused that same, heartbreakingly adorable reaction.
Val's smile lit up her face and my heart felt like it was being pumped with air. God I didn't want to have ruin that smile.
"You look awfully handsome yourself."
She walked over to me and I lost myself in the way her hips swayed.
She placed her hands on my shoulders and kissed me. It was slow and passionate and I suddenly had flashes of our shower endeavor earlier.
"Come on. I'm hungry and want my explanation."
Appalled at her impatience, I stayed put as she walked to our door. She turned around, saw me gaping, and rolled her eyes.
"Also, I want to show you off" she added.
"Much better."

I took Val to a nice place that we had never been to, due to our bad experiences with fancy places.
When we entered, I saw Val stiffen and her eyes dart around. She got nervous when we were out with a lot of people that weren't like us. She was always a little wary of 'making a fool of herself.' I wrapped my arm around her waist protectively and kissed the side of her head. She instantly eased up and we followed the maitre D to our table.
The carpet in the place was a deep red, the tables all dressed with dark cloths and flowers. A huge chandelier hung from the ceiling in the middle of the joint and there was candles placed all around the banisters.
