Brie's Pov:

RING RING

"Answer you idiot.." I tap my finger against the glass, looking out at the neighbourhood, the only lights coming from the windows of each house. Except one isn't on, "I swear to-"

"Hello?" The light flicks on.

"There you are! Take your time." I sigh leaning my head against the window, watching the room across the road, tracing the objects I can make out with my eyes.

"Brie everything okay?"

"No come to your window, you idiot." My hand smacks the glass as I straighten myself up, squinting my eyes over at the house, waiting for a figure to appear.

A chuckle crackles through the phone as the light is covered, "Steve when I call you I'd like an answer. Just saying." I slide the window open, swinging my legs out onto the roof. Hitching myself over the ledge.

"Brie if I don't answer I'm at work or I'm doing some chick. I'm not dead I promise you." His bedroom window slides open. He peeks his head under it and flashes me a grin, letting a slight laugh to push through my lips.

"Hey you never know." I situate myself on the roof, crossing my legs over one another as the phone wire sits along the window.

I look up and watch as Steve falls out his window, causing a giggle to also fall from my lips, "See you could've died just then."

He stands up brushing himself off throwing a groan through the phone, "That would've only happened on your accord, your the one who called me."

"Yeah yeah, excuses excuses. I'd be the one alive to make up some bullshit dumbass."

"Yeah and what would you say?" He breathes calmly, placing himself on the edge of his house throwing me a thumbs up across the street to let me know he's okay.

I laugh, "Uhm, probably that.. Tommy was asking for some dick so you climbed on the roof to give him a show, but you slipped and landed face first." I snort, "Or head first.."

"Ew." I hear a laugh come from his mouth making me smile knowing he found it funny and I wasn't just being a child.

I giggle, "It's true no? Then he'd get all the hate while you live peacefully in hell. It's a win-win Stevie."

"Did you just say hell?"

I laugh, "Oh look you have ears!"

"Oh shut up.." I watch him, his eyes were fixated on me. I smile to myself as my cheeks begin to brighten.

His house was only two down from mine but the way they were arranged it was almost like we were opposite each other. We've been climbing on the roof, getting away from our families, since we were able to walk. Calling each other and talking near on all night when our parents were in bed. Because my bedroom's downstairs I have to sneak to the guest room when my dad's busy. I don't know why I still feel like I have to hide it when dad knows I go up here but it makes it more fun.

"I remember the last time we called up here Brie, it was two years ago. The day you knew your mum was leaving, remember that?" A laugh accompanied his words.

"Oh god don't even, I was such a fucking psychic I thought I had powers," I laugh.

He chuckles, "Oh that makes two of us then. I was so scared you'd predict my future, it's why I left."

"Ha stop I wish that was the reason."

"It is! What're you on about?"

"Shut the hell up before I come over there and push you off that roof."

He snickers, "You wish. You'd probably fall off before I do."

"Heeey! Just because it's true doesn't mean you should say it out loud."

"Oh.. so wait if that's the case then.. can I not say that I missed this? And I feel like we barely speak anymore?"

I sigh blinking the tears back as I feel myself breaking, "No you can say that.."

"Brie, Tommy's ditching me for your boyfriend anyways. I'm all yours again, if you still want me."

"Hey no that's unfair! First of all he's not my boyfriend, and secondly I always want you. Your my family Steve, if you ever leave me I'll actually hunt you down and commit serious crimes."

"Mental note, don't walk out on Brie."

I giggle, "Trust me, if I ever see my mum again she's gonna wish she never came back."

"Okay Brie now I don't think you can say that."

"She destroyed my dad, I can say and do whatever I please if it's got anything to do with Elizabeth Grace Hart."

"Another mental note, don't be Brie's mum."

"Shut up.." I laugh, playing with the phone wire as I smile to myself, wrapping the cord between my fingers.

It goes quiet for a few minutes, not the awkward kind, there's never an awkward silence between me and Steve.

"Brie?"

I look up at him, "Steve?"

"Promise me something."

"Okay. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just.. promise me you won't get caught up with Billy. I know you think I'm an ass for saying you shouldn't trust him but I'm only looking out for you. It's not my fault I care about you."

I smile, nodding to myself as I dry my eyes with my sweatshirt sleeve, "I promise. But Steve I don't think your an ass. I get why you think like that, but I don't see him in that way, you don't have anything to worry about. Trust me you won't see me in a relationship for at least another 20 years."

I've never looked at anyone in that way, ever. After the first time I was.. you know, it became something that wasn't in my power to do. I was 8. So my whole life I'd grown up never being able to feel that way about anyone. At the end of the day it's better for me, because whenever I do accept the wrong person they go and fuck me over anyways. I'm meant to be alone..

"20 years?" He chuckles, "I'm surprised you think you'll even survive 20 more years."

"Wow Steve way to ruin the moment." I giggle.

"Brie, I love you, you know that?"

"I know Steve, I love you too."

"You know that someone is going to look at you like your their whole world one day, and someone's going to love you like their whole life depends on it. And you're going to have to accept that and not push away, because you deserve it. You deserve your own chance and just because people like Allistor have put a dent in that, it doesn't mean he's ruined it. You still have time, and your perfect. Don't let him make you believe otherwise. Anyone would be lucky to be yours. Don't let what happened affect anything okay? Can you promise me that?"

I take a minute to regain my thoughts, hearing those words broke me and I became pale, tears taking over my face, "Steve why're you saying that..? You don't want me to move on.."

"I don't want you to, no, but you have to. Let me do all the worrying okay?"

"Okay.."

"So you promise me you won't push him away because you're scared you might ruin it?"

"Who..?"

"Billy, Brie.. I know you like him and I don't want you to freak out when it gets too real."

"Steve.."

"No it's okay Brie.. You just promise me okay? I will always be in your corner if you need me."

"I promise.. But don't hide in the corner, be a part of it. I want you to be a part of my life too Steve. Just because he lives here now doesn't mean anything has to change."

A smile takes his face, "I know Brie. I'll be with you every step of the way."

"Good, as you should."

He laughs, "Aaaand your back again."

"Hey shut up."
