Hawkins High School"Okay sweetheart, I'm going back to work. Are you okay making your own way home?" Dad squeezes my leg and I smile swinging my head round.
"Yeah, I have my keys I'll be okay!" I pat my pocket.
He leans over placing a kiss on my temple, "Good luck pumpkin. I'll see you tonight okay, make sure you get ready for the dinner."
I frown, a groan slips through my lips as I roll my head back, "I forgot about that.."
He nods, "I know honey, but it's only for dinner and then we can go home."
I slip my hand through the handle on the door as I open it and step out, peeking my head back in, "Love you."
A small smirk takes his face, "Love you too kid, be safe."
I salute and he watches me take the path down to the gate before heading off.
The smell of cigarettes, trash and mixed perfumes clogged my nose.
I did not miss this.
The air was musty and the fresh familiar feeling coming into Hawkins was completely stripped away past the gate.
My anxiety filled my body, the stress tensing my face. The faces that were catching my attention made me want to turn back and head home.
I dreaded this. And I had no one to walk me through it. I'm not a baby anymore. My anxiety has always been left to be my own problem, but now more than ever.
I go to head inside as we always sit in the hall for lunch but my attentions taken by a familiar voice, almost calming me slightly.
"Oh my god right, I can't tell if he's hot or just an asshole."
Robin? Never thought I'd hear that sentence come out your mouth.
I chuckle to myself and walk over wrapping my arm around her neck, "Right Jesus, I hate him!"
Their faces light up and it forces a grin across my own. "Oh. Hey Rob sorry, I didn't realise it was you," I smile, patting her head.
She hooks her arm round my waist as she jumps up and spins me around in her hold, causing a laugh to slip from my mouth. "You're back!!"
I giggle as she drops me, "I had to come back at some point Rob. I wasn't gonna leave you guys forever!"
I watch as she smiles before I'm lifted off the ground again, startling me, "Jesus Christ Steve!!"
I fall from his arms and turn, hitting him as my heart raced out my chest, and we both laugh, "Missed you, you know Hart." He pecks his fingers at my nose.
My cheeks flush as my smile takes the better of me, "Missed you too idiot!" I pull him in for a hug before pushing him away, my hands rested on his shoulders, and my eyebrows furrow, "Why're we outside?"
Carol scoffs, I didn't even notice her I must've subconsciously blocked her from my vision, "Tommy and Eddie wanted a smoke." She lifts herself from the hood of the car as she points over to another car with the two and some others gathered around.
"Hm.. of course they did." I look back to Steve dropping my hands to my sides, "You not joining them?"
He laughs looking at me with an eyebrow jerked and his arms cross over his chest, "I made a certain someone a promise, I don't know if you remember?" He bumps his elbow into me lightly, the words taken from the tip of my tongue. "You're a little red Brie, everything okay?" He grins and I roll my eyes.
