PULLING into the driveway of her home, Hayley wiped her hands on her jeans as they were sweating and she was trembling lightly. She then placed a hand over her pounding heart, feeling it thud fast. Hayley sat, though the longer she did the more she realized that she wasn't sitting because she wanted to, she was sitting because her entire body quite literally felt paralyzed. Hesitantly opening the car door, she then lifted her leg which felt as if it weighed a hundred tons as she stepped out of the vehicle.
Part of the many reasons why Angelo was so scary was mainly because of how unpredictable he is. Hayley always saw his personality to be a constant ticking time bomb, and a very sensitive one at that as the littlest inconveniences caused him to erupt and use her as his target. For instance, Hayley knew that the night he came home raging and smashing beer bottles all over the place was because he was too drunk and angered to even notice she was home in bed that night as any other time, those bottles would've been used on her.
Hayley entered the house anxiously, knowing that the creaking from the door opening was enough to announce her arrival. She lived in quite a small house so there wasn't much to inspect after she first took notice of the living room being completely empty, no bottles or anything broken lying around, so maybe that was a slight positive but not enough to ease her anxiety. She then made her way to her room, which also was empty and not destroyed. The only other place she could think to check that wasn't in sight was the backyard, which surprisingly was a lot bigger than the living room alone.
Cracking open the glass door, Hayley took a peak around the outside area, there was the fire pit, the barbecue grill, more broken glass all over in the grass and most concerning, a large tin of acid which was unbeknownst as to if was full or not, Hayley certainly wasn't going to find out.
Hayley closed the glass sliding door given no sign of Angelo was revealed. She looked at the text again and wondered if he were even at the house yet until she remembered seeing his car parked across the street. But where could he have been? If not somewhere in this tiny house then where else was left to hide?
Just as she turned around in the direction of the living room, she was startled by a glimpse of Angelo right behind her, only seconds before he raised his hand and smacked her so hard she fell into the wall.
The very next thing Hayley knew, she had ringing in her left ear that was so loud it was deafening and in the background she heard Angelo yelling, but was unable to make out what he was saying as the ringing was taking over her hearing. She then felt her hair being yanked as she was dragged to the floor of the living room, right in front of the couch.
The ringing was minimizing faintly as Angelo's voice was coming into the clear, "Get up! What the hell have you done, you shit for brains little brat!"
Hayley felt paralyzed as she was still on the ground, hunched up in a ball enduring every one of Angelo's hits as he soon resorted to kicking her.
"GET UP HAYLEY!"
Backing away for a few seconds, Angelo paused as his daughter lay trembling on the floor, her hands over her head as she shook. He left the room for a few seconds only to come back with a belt and hanger in each hand.
He knelt down in front of Hayley, "What the hell were you and Robert doing yesterday, I told you to make deliveries!"
"We did!" Hayley sobbed out, "We- we got every house on every block, up and down the street-"
"You LIAR!" Angelo swung at her with the belt before grabbing her chin upright making her face him. "I had 5 of my clients pull up, damn near pound the door down demanding their packages, what were you two shits doing yesterday?"
