9. A Pull At The Strings

{During Hayley's time in the forest}

BACK at Chloe's house, her and Rebekah were working on a film project for Chloe's theater class. Though less work was being done since talking and procrastinating was taking place.

"Dude," Chloe chuckled out as she spun around in her swivel chair, "you've been here for four hours and we barley started shit!"

Rebekah tossed herself onto Chloe's bed, bouncing right off and rolling onto the floor, "Mate, I'm too shy to be in your film! Let me be the c-"

"No, Rebekah, you won't be the camera man!" Chloe laughed out. "It's only a quick short film, I just need you to be in a few shots pleeease!"

Rebekah remained on the floor of Chloe's bedroom, letting out a far beyond overdramatic groan. Chloe clicked her tongue, "Ugh, you're being a difficult twat, ya know that?"

"Hey, we should get something to eat, I'm starving!" Rebekah stated in attempt to change the subject. Chloe stared at her with an unamused look.

"I'm thinking... Chinese food! What'a ya say?"
"I say we should get to work, Bekah."

Rebekah let out a huff, "A'right mate, show me the script, I'll go over it but in return, you order us takeout."
"Oh buzz off," Chloe sneered, "I should be the one making deals with you, not the other way around."

"Instead you're making the wrong deals with the wrong kind of people." Rebekah implied with sass.
Chloe sat staring with her mouth gaping open, "I know you're not-"
Rebekah slowly nodded her head, "Mhm."

Chloe clasped her hands together in her lap, "Haven't we already gone over this?"
"When'd you meet her?" Rebekah questioned in the tone of a statement.

"Like... earlier this year, during summer- Rebekah would you relax for the love of God!"
"I dunno, I don't like the vibe and demeanor of this Holly girl, she-"
"It's Hayley."
"Whatever. If the word 'sketchy' was a person, I'm tellin' ya she would be it."

"Know what, Bekah? I won't deal with this again, go over the script and I'll put in an order for takeout." Chloe left the room and went downstairs.
Rebekah called after her, "You know I'll fight her for you if I have to!"

"Shut up, you're not fighting anyone!" Chloe hollered from downstairs.
While she headed into the kitchen, Chloe was putting in an order for DoorDash from a restaurant her and Rebekah loved. After submitting the order, she dwelled upon Rebekah's words of distrust towards Hayley. They were both best friends of Chloe's yet the feud between the two made it exceptionally uncomfortable for her as she wasn't one to choose sides.

With Chloe's parents out for the night, she seized an opportunity to sew a patch between Rebekah and Hayley, offering for Hayley to come over,

are you free? i was wondering if you'd be willing to help me with a project :)

With the text sent, Chloe had a feeling the answer would already be yes as she was somewhat aware of Hayley's at-home situation with her father and how she was always eager to be away from him. Though the details were always spared, she knew about Angelo being an alcoholic and, of course a drug dealer, hence where Chloe bought for her mother.

A few moments later and a response had come back, one which Chloe was expecting,

I'll be there, give me about 30 mins

Perfect. Chloe thought to herself. She then jogged halfway up the stairs, calling out to Rebekah, "Oi! Bekah! The wait is about 30 minutes for our food so I'm gonna stay down here for when it arrives!"
She lied. The wait for the food was around 15 minutes but she couldn't let her plan be revealed.
