Flashback

Amara was stumbling after Luke his hand gripping her tightly. The last thing she had eaten was a piece of bread a lady had given them out of pity. Her bare feet hurt hand she still had shards on her arms and hands that had gotten infected.

"I'm tired, Luke", she complained stumbling over her hurt feet.

"I know but it's still after us", the boy told her.

She looked behind her. She could feel the monster lingering behind her. A chimera was following them it was out of sight right now, but she could feel it lingering behind her.

Luke pulled her into a side alley.

"Do you think it's gone", Amara asked him her eyes wide.

"It's not real we're safe", Luke tried to reassure rubbing his temple his eyes closed as they both were catching their breath.

Amara crouched down pressing her back against the wall. Her feet were raw and were hurting.

Luke looked around stepping in front of her to cover her. Amara froze she could hear the footsteps of the chimera. They came closer and closer until the chimera was blocking the exit out of the alley. She looked to the right. It was a dead end if the chimera found them, they'd be screwed. The monster had almost passed them when it stopped.

Amara wanted to believe that none of this was real, and it was just their imagination getting the best of them. Like in the book "The Bridge of Terabithia" it could just be that they were two kids looking for a better world hoping to escape the truth about their life, but deep-down Amara could feel that this was more than just a dream and the fear in her bones was real.

The chimera had almost passed them when it suddenly froze smelling around. Amara held her breath standing up as Luke pushed the small girl behind himself covering her with his body. The chimera turned towards their alley Amara and Luke pushed themselves against the wall they could feel it smell them trying to find them. The chimera came closer and closer. It seemed to entirely depend on its smell and be blind.

The chimera seemed to have found them coming closer and closer the pair clutched each other's hands their eyes wide. They were just kids they didn't want to die.

Suddenly a girl about their age with short black hair came from behind stabbing in the chimera in the back. It howled in pain and spun around to face the girl. Raising its tail it was about to strike the newcomer when Amara stepped in distracting it by throwing a rock at it.

"Hey, I'm here asshole!", she shouted.

Confused at the amount of people that were surrounding it now the chimera turned back at them. Luke pushed her back, but the other girl used this moment to stab it again and it turned back to her. The chimera's neck was now really close to them.

"You catch!", she shouted at Luke throwing him the knife and without hesitation Luke stabbed it's neck. The chimera screamed dissolving into dust.

The three kids were now panting terrified.

"Not bad you two", the girl complimented them, "I'm Thalia", she introduced herself.

"I'm Luke, she's Amara", Luke introduced them.

The girl looked down at their shabby appearance that was similar to her own, "I take it you two ran from home too?".

They nodded.

"So, what are you like siblings? You don't look alike", she asked.

"We're friends but we're basically siblings", Amara answered.
