Present Hannah's POV

When I finally got some alone time, I decided to skim through my brother's diary. It felt kind of wrong to do so, sort of like an intrusion or invasion of personal space but I knew that it could help me find out who killed him in some way.

As I read it, I learned more and more about him. I learned that he actually adored playing the piano but over time, his love for it faded away. Despite the fact that his love for the piano grew weaker, it never went away.

One line in his diary stuck out to me, "I love them so much but if anyone ever knew about them, my life's song would turn into a cappella."

I never knew that my brother had a lover but page sixteen of his diary left me hooked. I needed to know more about them but whenever he would mention them, he'd just say "they this" and "they that." I flipped through a bunch of pages but couldn't find their name or any information that could help me find out anything about them. It was almost like my brother knew someone would eventually read his diary and wanted to keep it a secret no matter what.

I was in my school's courtyard so the cool breeze flipped through the pages, leaving me on some random page towards the end of his diary. I read it thoroughly, not skipping any word that was written on the page. It mentioned how I had been acting bitter towards him but he didn't mind. It mentioned how he believed that my bitterness was justified by the fact that all he did was play the piano and shut everyone else out. Micheal knew that he was shutting everyone else to focus on music but refused to fix it.

"What are you reading?"

My heart stopped for a second as I spun around. It was Marc, "You scared me! I was able to unlock Micheal's diary."

He looked taken aback, "Did you find anything?"

"Not yet but apparently he had a lover. Do you know anything about them?"

"Why would I?"

"I mean you two were really close."

"Unfortunately, I don't. He hid a lot of things from me too," he mumbled, "That's part of the reason we fought that day."

He was staring really intensely at my face, "Do I have something on my face or are you just doing that really weird thing again?"

"Your eyes are just like his," he muttered. He looked like he was on the verge of tears so I just pursed my lips and nodded my head.

"My brother sure liked to hang out with weirdos," I mumbled under my breath, "So, did you check if your roommates all have a music or art brochure?"

"They all have one."

"Why aren't you wearing yours? Did you lose it?"

"I lost it a while ago. I still haven't gotten a new one."

"That's good to know."

"Why?"

"It's nothing."

I got up and headed towards my dorm room. Before entering, I pressed my ear against the door. Vanessa was talking to Charlotte and I heard my brother's name mentioned.

"I loved him but I guess it wasn't meant to be," Vanessa vocalised.

Charlotte said, "I get your upset but he's dead now. Get over him."

"But I can't."

"You can but you refuse to. You're being really selfish right now. You know that Hannah's upset about this whole murder thing right now so be a good friend and comfort her instead of obsessing over her dead brother."
