Present Hannah's POV

I looked at the brooch that was found at the crime scene closely. It looked just like the one that all the music students wore. Marc was missing his brooch but I just didn't feel like it was him. I tried to think of a reason that Marc could've killed Micheal. They weren't rivals and it's not like they had anything against each other. I couldn't help but sigh, thinking about how complicated finding a murderer actually was.

"Hannah? What are you doing up?" Charlotte said as she rubbed her eyes, "It's four in the morning and it's Wednesday."

"Trying to catch a murderer," I muttered, "Someone sent my brother a voicemail but my parents wiped his phone."

"A voicemail or voice message?"

"A text message with someone's voice."

"Did he have a computer?"

"We shared the same one at home. Why?"

"Do you have it with you right now?"

"Of course. I don't use my crappy school one unless I have to."

"I think I can help you. Get me the laptop, please."

I took the laptop out of my bag. Somehow, Charlotte recovered the messages.

"Oh my gosh, Charlotte!" I exclaimed, "You're a genius! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

I listened to the voice message. It said exactly what he had written, "Good luck on your performance at Lilian Hall, it might be your last." The following messages weren't what I had expected, though.

Micheal: Huh? Who's this?

Unknown: It's me, Evelyn!

Micheal: What's with the threatening message?

Unknown: Threatening? What, no! You told me that you wanted to quit, right? I was just sending you a good luck message! We might've been rivals in the past but I hope that we can become good friends and put our past aside.

Micheal: My parents would never let me quit, haha. It was nice talking to you, Evelyn.

Evelyn: C'était agréable de parler avec toi. It was nice talking to you.

Micheal liked a message.

I took my phone out of my pocket and texted Marc, "Where did you lose your brooch?"

Marc: It's probably somewhere in the courtyard.

Hannah: Let's go find it, then!

Marc: Haha, you don't need to do that.

Hannah: But I want to. I'm already on my way!

I put my phone away and put on my slippers. I was still in my pyjamas but I didn't care. It's not like any of the teachers were awake at four in the morning to dress code me.

"So, where do you think it is?" I asked as I walked next to Marc, "The courtyard is pretty big."

"I'll check near the flowers and you check near the entrance?" he suggested.

"Sure, let's do this!" I exclaimed, "Time to find a missing music brooch!" After about thirty minutes of searching, we couldn't find anything. Suddenly, I had an idea. "Marc! Look what I found!"

I took out the crime scene brooch from my pocket and handed it to him.

"This one isn't mine," he stated, "My brooch said 1930 on the back."

I turned it over and saw the date '2005' engraved on the back. "What's the difference between the 2005 and 1930's brooch?"

"My grandfather used to attend this school. My brooch is an original and the school gives benefits to the students with an original brooch. Well, mine is gone now so I guess no more extra study halls for me."
