Past Marc's POV
"This cafe is really nice! I don't know how I didn't find out about it sooner," I said as I took a sip of my lemonade, "It's really hot outside, so the air conditioner feels really good."
Micheal laughed, "I work here on weekends, actually. I come here in the evening after I'm done with my shift at the ice rink."
"Is this a date?" I remarked with a smirk on my face.
"Only if you want it to be," he winked.
"Gosh, I hate crappy romance stuff," I said as I rolled my eyes, "So, has anything interesting happened lately?"
"Yeah, actually. I saw this really creepy person loitering around my house yesterday, but my parents said it'll be fine."
"Were they tall?"
"About the same as Hannah and I."
"Then, you have nothing to worry about."
"I'm still nervous, though."
Our hands interlocked and I flashed him a smile, "If you ever feel scared, I'm your ghostbuster."
"How reassuring," he said as he tightly squeezed my hand, "I guess I found the perfect boyfriend, then."
"I'm surprised that you said that in public. What happened to me being your little secret?"
"Come on, don't be that way. I love you and you know that."
"I'm finding that harder to believe every day."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
I pulled my hand away from his, "I'm tired of being your secret. It's because I'm not a girl, isn't it?"
"I'm famous and you know that. My parents would kill me if anything disrupted this idol life of mine."
"It's always 'my parents' this and 'my parents' that. Can't you just live your own life for once?"
"I wish it was that easy. They think we're best friends and that's as good as it's going to get."
"Gosh, I hate this so much."
"Don't be that way. Once we both graduate, our relationship doesn't have to be a secret anymore. I'll let go of the prodigy life since my parents won't be able to control me anymore."
"I'm sorry, Micheal."
"For what?"
"I just can't do this anymore. I'm tired of being some guy that you're just 'friends' with."
"So you're breaking up with me? But it was going so well!"
I scoffed as I got up. Micheal didn't want to cause a scene so he stayed seated and watched me leave. It was only after I left that I realised I had forgotten my wallet. I wasn't going to go back to the cafe, I couldn't bring myself to face him.
The next day, Micheal came over to my house with my wallet in his hand. "You really didn't need to bring it all the way here. You could've just left it in the main office at school."
"We can talk about this, Marc. We don't have to break up."
"You're doing this for yourself, aren't you? You honestly don't care about my feelings."
He took my hand and kissed me,"I care about your feelings more than I care about anybody else," he assured me, "Please, don't go."
"You only care about yourself and your stupid piano. Go date your piano if you're that desperate for a romantic partner."
