I believe the universe is out for me. Three years of bad luck and lots of bad decisions.

A how and why mih affi salt suh?

Jah know.

How a Jamaican female such as myself thought it was a good idea to trust a man?

Again.

Trusting him enough to keep the air conditioner going throughout the heat, but hoping he'll provide warmth and heat in the cold.

Traveling from Atlanta to Colorado on a well paid holiday vacation sponsored by our friends. This man got one call and left me at the airport with a lame apology.

Freezing cold, two inches of snow and I instantly regret not following him. The news clearly states that it will only get worst.

I ended up meeting the driver that was here to pick us up and took us to our destination.

I saw how concerned the guy was when I told him it's just me for now.

Explaining my situation is what I'm not going to do.

In the middle of nowhere, surrounded by trees, snow and possibly wild animals. The wooden cabin was stocked with wood for the fire, groceries that we requested and everything to our comfort.

Insanity will be my comfort as I'll be alone for weeks.

Collecting a few cards from the driver who promised they'll be helpful in contacting reliable individuals. I thanked him before he left.

Hurrying out of the falling slow and the wet earth. Careful not to fall on my ass or my face.

I got in safely and turned the heat on before I do anything else.

After a shower, I made a pot of chocolate tea while I searched every nook and cranny. There's nothing more I fear than a bug or insect infestation.

Luckily I am in the clear.

Snuggled up on the couch as I drank the tea and preparing to make an important phone call.

"Please be Rae." Emryn pleads the moment the call went through.

"It's me." I sniffled.

"Oh, thank heavens." She praises. "Have you both reached safely? Is the cabin to your liking? Did Blake made his first fire as yet?"

"Yes, yes and no." I held back my tears.

"What?" She yelled and I'm glad the call is on speakerphone and not against my ear. "Please explain, Jhanna-Rae?"

"Blake took another flight out minutes after we landed in Colorado. He got a call and gave me this lame excuse and an apology about having a family emergency." I wiped my eyes before the tears could fall in my tea.

"What family emergency? Did he explain?"

"No, but I'm definitely sure that he's cheating. He faked the fucking call by setting an alarm with his ring tone playing. This is his forth time doing it. I'm done with him, Em." Frustrated with my emotions so high, I gave up and let the tears fall.

"Babe! Get in here!" She yelled as I cried. "I have you on speakerphone, Rae."

"Is everything okay?" Aaron inquires. "Why are you crying, Rae?"

Emryn starts to explain what I just told her.

"Fucking piece of shit!" Aaron hissed.

"She's out there all by herself and the weather will only get worst by the hour." She stresses.

"Rae, I'm so fucking sorry. I'll call my friend's brother to find out what I can do to help. Please stay on the call till I get a response."

"Okay." I told him, close my eyes and said a small prayer asking for hope.

"Everything will be okay, Rae. Just keep the heat going. Check the satellite, check the generator, double check on food, firewood and learn how to get the fireplace..."

An just like that, the light went out and the signal lost.

I held my self and cried louder, looking at the E above the signal and my twenty seven percent battery level.

Turning the flashlight on, I went in search of the generator.

It thankfully starts working five minutes of me coming up empty handed.

I couldn't find the satellite either so I let it be.

Going right ahead to charge my phone and to enjoy another cup of tea before it gets cold.

After a few hours, I skillfully lit the fireplace and turned the heat down to save energy.

Moving the mattress off the bedframe to the living room area, where I piled all the pillows and blankets around to keep me warm.

According to the instructions left, the fire doesn't need a lot of wood piled up.

The bit that is there will turn to coal, but all that should be removed is the ashes as it would only kill the flame quicker.

Having the little pieces close, I set an alarm to monitor the fire while I'm in need of some rest.

Keeping only one light on, I look around before I closed my eyes.

All I hope for is the chance to survive, and if I do, I'll make Blake regret abandoning me.
