"Where were you guys?"
Phoenix and Aurora had been in quite a shock that they hadn't realised that they had already reached their house. Sine their fate hated them, they bumped into the worst person you could bump into when you realised that you had seen a ghost, Audrey(Great! Another ghost!)
Audrey gave them a hard, cold stare, silently letting the message that it was their end sink in.
Phoenix and Aurora tried to calm themselves down and think of something to say, that would spare them a few seconds before Audrey reaped their soul.
"H-hi s-sis, w-what's up?" Phoenix managed to stutter. She wasn't stuttering because she was scared of Audrey of course, she's just nine right? What's the worst she could do? But they were shocked by what they had seen in the forest. They kept feeling that the figure was following them. They took a glance behind to check if the figure was behind them, but no one was. But they still felt unsettled.
"Who are you looking at?" Audrey asked, suspiciously.
"Oh... Nothing. Just seeing if we had a shadow," Aurora lied.
The only thing that usually prevented them from being killed by Audrey was the fact that she was still nine. She would mostly believe the lies they said to get out of trouble if it was believable. But the bad thing was, for a nine-year-old, she had too much common sense, something that both Phoenix and Aurora lacked.
"Why are you looking for your shadow?" Audrey asked, trying to hide her confusion.
"Because we couldn't see yours," Phoenix replied.
Audrey was probably extremely confused, but she did a good job hiding it. They were at the doorstep of their house, and there was a roof over them, so obviously there was no shadow. Audrey had a brain to understand that, unlike Phoenix and Aurora who unfortunately left their brains in the forest (if they ever had one).
"You can't see the shadow, dumbo. There's no sun," Audrey pointed out.
"Of course, there is a sun. Look," Aurora said, pointing at the sun.
Audrey rolled her eyes, probably thinking how dumb they could be.
"There's a roof above us. Sunlight can't reach us. So there's no shadow," Audrey said as if explaining to two three-year-olds,
"Oh... Right, we forgot," Phoenix replied, acting to just realise it, hoping that Audrey forgot about them bumping into her.
"Grandma's have better memories than you two," Audrey muttered, opening the door and going inside.
"We know you have a better memory than us, little sis," Aurora said as she and Phoenix followed Audrey inside.
Upon hearing this, Audrey turned around and gave them an extreme death stare. She looked like she was ready to burst into instant kung-fu.
"First off, I'm NOT your little sis," Audrey said, scornfully. "You aren't even related to me. Second off, don't speak if you don't have to. You'll end up regretting it."
Audrey walked closer to them, as if she was going to punch them. Fortunately for them, Hannah came home at the same time. She spotted what Audrey was about to do and caught Audrey's hand before she could do anything.
"What's going on?" Hannah asked them, desperately trying to stop Audrey from freeing her hand.
"Oh...We were just having a sisterly conversation," Phoenix replied, giving her sweetest smile.
"Uh...Ok...Aren't you two supposed to be grounded in your room?" Hannah asked them.
"Ohh...Um.. Ya... We have to go," Aurora replied.
