The worst part about breaking up, is the feeling of loneliness. Knowing that the way you felt when you kissed was over. There's no warning. No way to know when your last moment together is.
For me it was a little different. I still had to see Ezra everyday. That made it even harder. Seeing him and knowing I can't do anything to help the problem.
So I did what any lovestruck teen would do in this situation. I requested a transfer slip.
"Can you sign this?" I asked.
I was standing up at his desk, trying to avoid his eyes, his mouth, his face really.
"What's this?" he asked confused.
"It's a transfer slip," I bit my lip, knowing that I would soon be eating those words.
He looked down at the price of paper. I was stuck staring at the chalkboard behind him. Other than the Shakespeare lesson written on it I looked on the top. Mr. Fitz was still written. It was taunting me. Those words were what was coming between us. If he was still just Ezra I wouldn't be standing here asking for permission to stay out of his life.
Ezra breathed a sigh. I couldn't tell if it was relief or despair. His pen started to graze the paper, even his signature was beautiful.
Brrrrinnngggg
The bell made him jump, turning his beautiful handwriting into an atrocious mess.
"Ya know what, I will just hold on to this," I said slipping it off his desk and into my folder.
"I'd like you to reconsider transferring," he whispered.
I smiled and turned around toward my seat.
Once I sat down I pulled out the transfer slip.
"What's that?" Emily asked.
"Oh, uh, nothing just some extra credit assignment,"
"Extra credit? It's the second week of school,"
"Yeah and your like the best in this class, why would you need extra credit," Spencer chimed in.
"It's nothing you guys, just drop it"
Emily and Spencer exchanged looks and shook there heads in confusion.
"Alright today we will be starting to read Hamlet!" Ezra announced.
As he started passing out the books I felt myself start to tear the edges of the paper. When I noticed what I was doing I folded the paper up and started ripping. I had to decide whether I was going to regret this or not.
As I ripped the paper into million confetti pieces, I decided the answer was not.
