After clearing the dinner dishes, the pair settled back onto the sofa to begin plotting Anzu's apology to Kenma. Music played softly on the TV as Anzu paced through the living room deep in thought, Kuroo sprawled across the sofa lazily enjoying his view from his roost. "Sweetheart, HoneyBunch, Light Of My Life, please, it will be ok. All you need to do is see him and explain what was happening and where your frustration came from. He will hear you out, I promise. Do you want me to call him to check on him? I'll act dumb?" the rooster rattled off, attempting for the umpteenth time to ease Anzu's anxiety.
Upon hearing the rooster's last plea, Anzu ceased her pacing as she turned to him with a new fire behind her eyes. "Yes Roo! That's perfect!" she called out with a hopeful bounce as she made her way towards her rooster. Kuroo couldn't help the small chuckle that left his lips watching Anzu settle into the plush sofa, wasting no time to almost swaddle herself into the first blanket her hand found. "She is so precious," the rooster swooned internally as he began to search for his phone in their nest. Taking a final sip of his drink and shooting Anzu one last glance, Kuroo dialed the Puddin Head's number as he placed the phone on speaker.
Anzu inhaled a shaky breath as the ringing filled the room, waiting for Kenma to pick up. Time stood still as she counted the rings in anticipation, worry flooding Anzu's mind about Puddin's emotional state. After the fourth ring, Kenma's tired voice sounded, "Hello?". Anzu shook, hearing the exhaustion dripping from Kenma's voice on the other side of the phone, glancing to meet Kuroo's concerned eyes. "Hey kitten! What's up?" Kuroo called out, fighting to keep the concern from his voice. Kuroo's words were met with a heavy pause of silence before an exacerbated sigh came through the speaker. "Are you alright?" Kuroo quietly spoke into the phone, softening his words at Kenma's clear signs of distress.
The longer Anzu listened to Kuroo and Kenma talk, the more her heart sank, taking in his dejected tone. She was zapped from her thoughts, hearing the rooster call out her name, looking up at him with doe eyes. "H-Huh?" Anzu stuttered, confused why he spoke to her still in Kenma's presence on the phone. Kuroo tried to ease Anzu's fear with a comforting gaze as he spoke, "Kenma asked how you were, so I told him I was with you so you could answer him," Kuroo explained gently as if Anzu would spook and run at the drop of a pin. She inhaled a ragged breath, sizing up the situation as she chose her words carefully, "H-Hi Puddin," she called out weakly clearing her throat before speaking again in a more confident tone, "I'm sorry about earlier today. I shouldn't have yelled."
A small smile spread across Kenma's face at the sound of Anzu's voice coming through his phone. Her apology hitting him like a wave that he happily let wash over him, easing the tension that had been mounting since he exited her apartment hours earlier. Despite their spat he coudln't go home without leaving her a sweet reminder for the fridge like he had initally promised. With shaking hands he tore a a spare page from a notebook, taking Anzu's favoirte blue pen, he began to jot down the short, but sweet message for his favorite girl.
"We're always a phone call away. Don't be dumb :P"
He scrawled in his thin hand writing before drawing a quick little doodle of a flower below the message. Folding and signing the paper then making his way back to his own home. The usually short stroll back to Kenma's house passed painfully slow, feeling like he was trudging through thick mud as his mind spiraled around their fight. He allowed the guilt to wash over him as he sat with his poor actions, pausing to pull out his switch and open animal crossing to distract his mind for the remainder of his walk.
Arriving home Kenma preceded through the motions of his daily tasks, firing up his computer and streaming equipment, allowing himself to mindlessly dissassociate from his feelings. After completing his stream exhaustion took hold, forcing Kenma to crawl under his covers, allowing the ambient sounds of his room lull him into a dead slumber.
Kuroo's voice pulled Kenma from his thoughts of earlier, "Kenma....," the rooster nervously crowed. Shaking his head to clear it, Kenma took in a deep breath, "Hi Puppy Luv, it's ok. I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have reacted out of anger so fast," Kenma spole in a soothing tone, praying it would ease Anzu's nerves. "I got your note, I haven't read it yet," Anzu called out, her bubbly tone slowly beginning to return causing both boys to grin. "Read it whenever you're ready, no rush," Kenma spoke while shifting under his covers begining to wonder what the pair were up to. "What are yall doing? I just woke up from a nap and I miss yall!" Kenma whined out throwing his head back.
Anzu perked up at Kenma's declaration of missing them. She quickly scanned Kuroo's face for any objections before opening her mouth to speak, "Why don't you come over? We just ate dinner, but I think a gas station trip is in orderrrrr!" Anzu sang, standing from her spot on the couch begining to do a little dance in the middle of the room. Kuroo quickly flicked his camera on to film the display Anzu put on. "Go Anzu! Go Anzu! Fuck it up!" Kuroo cheered to rile her on, ending the video he quickly sent it to kenma, "Look at this fool," he called out to Kenma as his laughter rang through the phone. "I'm on the way losers, don't have too much fun without me," Kenma laughed out before ending the call, starting the walk over.
A short time later arriving at Anzu's apartment, sending a quick text to let them know he had arrived as the pair came bounding out of the apartment. "Puddin Pop! I missed you!" Anzu cried as she flung herself around Kenma, Kuroo keeping his distance to watch from behind. His heart fluttering as he watched the setter lay a gentle peck on Anzu's forehead as they giggled. "I could get used to this" He thought to himself as he approached them to usher them onward toward Ukai's store to raise their usual terror.
