Alyssa was a disappointment to her parents. They wanted a boy, but instead, they were stuck with a baby girl.
One day, Alyssa's mother was pregnant again, and already wanted Alyssa to grow up faster, so at the age of one, she was taken out of diapers so her parents could only have one baby in them.
They failed to properly toilet train her. She was still too young to start, so she had frequent accidents. Once her younger brother Trent was born, her parents treated him as if he were the second coming of Jesus.
He got gifts while she got nothing. Every family event they went to, even on her own birthdays, everything had to be about Trent. He had to blow pit her candles. He had the first slice of cake, and he had all her gifts. He got to eat all the junk food he could ever ask for, while she had just enough food to fill her stomach.
Of course, she was grateful to be able to have food to eat. Her parents knew that if they didn't feed her, they would already look bad in the public eye, so they were forced to keep her healthy, but they still resented her all because she was born a girl.
Alyssa was five years old when she met Caroline. Caroline was very friendly to her and shared her toys with Alyssa.
Not long after she met Caroline, they both met Bonnie and Elena. Things seemed to turn for the better for Alyssa until she asked her parents to sleep over at Caroline's house, which her parents said no. Deep down, she was enraged that her parents never let her do anything fun, but Trent could do whatever he wanted.
A few years went by, and Alyssa's grandmother secretly gave her money to buy something nice, so she went to the store to buy a diary. She heard from Caroline and Elena that they had diaries, so she wanted to have one as well.
When she got her diary, she began to write down all her problems with her family. It felt good to write stuff down, but she also wrote how she wanted a real childhood. To start over in life. So she began to play house with her friends at recess, and she tried volunteering to play as the baby. At first, it felt weird, but a few minutes later and she felt amazing. She loved the feeling of being taken care of by her friends. Even if it was just pretend, she enjoyed every moment of it.
She wrote about playing as a baby in her diary, and it felt therapeutic just writing everything down and not having anyone to judge her. She spent most of her days in her room writing in her diary after she finished her homework. It was the only thing she could really do since she didn't have any TV privileges or toys to play with.
Her grades in school were much better after she bought her diary, but it made no difference with her parents. They never cared for her, so it was pointless to them to praise her for her accomplishments.
Trent became meaner the more he grew. He was a bully in their school and started many fights with other students. Teachers tried to explain to their parents that what he was doing was wrong, but they fought back, making sure that he got away Scott free. Being in elementary school, he got away with almost everything.
Things got worse with him when he started middle school. He got away with stuff a lot less, and his new school was less tolerable to his misbehavior, so Trent's parents had no other choice but to allow the school to punish him.
Caroline was the closest friend to Alyssa, so she was trusted the most with anything Alyssa said.
One day, Caroline wanted to visit Alyssa to play with her on the weekend, but her parents said no, she was grounded for not doing her chores when asked. Dissapointed, Caroline left and went back to her house.
Caroline constantly complained to her mother, Elizabeth, that Alyssa wasn't allowed to play with her, which eventually upset Elizabeth. It was odd to her how Alyssa was always grounded for many different reasons, so she knocked on the door.
