The days dragged on one after another. Rob would disappear for days at work, and I would sit alone in his apartment. Trying to kill the time, which was dragging on for a very long time, I was studying and even sent some papers to my teachers, hoping that I would not get into trouble because of the large number of absences.

But no matter how lonely the day was, the evenings and nights always made me feel like the happiest woman in the world. Because they were filled with care, tenderness, and passion. When I let him go in the morning, I was anxiously waiting for the evening, expecting to feel his closeness and the taste of his longed-for lips again. It was quite easy for us to be alone, as if we had already lived together for many years. And perhaps from the outside we looked like a real married couple.

But one evening Rob came home later than usual. When I met him, I threw myself into his arms and kissed him. He returned my caresses, but he was too worried.

- Emma, I have to go, - he said, taking my hands off his shoulders.

- Where? - I asked, confused.

- We're on Evan's trail. I hope it ends today. - He headed for the bedroom, and I followed him, stunned by the news.

- What exactly will end?

- I'm going to catch this bastard by the gills and make sure he goes to jail for as long as possible. Only then can I be sure that no one and nothing will threaten you.

Rob took off his business suit and dressed more casually in jeans, a T-shirt, and a leather jacket. After that, he almost got into the closet and I heard the sound of some buttons he was pressing. A couple of seconds later, a small door opened and I saw a safe. Rob took out a gun, put it in his pocket and closed the safe.

- Why do you need it? - excitement permeated my voice.

- It's for protection. You have nothing to worry about, - he said soothingly, returning his deep gaze to me.

- I don't think so, - I said, irritation rising in me because I didn't understand what was happening. And Rob was in no hurry to tell me the details.

- Baby, - he covered my face with his hands, - you don't have to worry. I'll be back soon.

He immediately squeezed me tightly in his palms, not allowing me to say anything. His lips covered mine with a hot kiss. It was short but passionate. Leaving his taste on my lips, Rob headed for the door. All I managed to say to him in the back was:

- Take care.

More than an hour passed, and there was no news from Rob. I sat on the couch and held the phone in my hands, hoping that he would call or write something. I was afraid to call myself, because I could do it at the most inopportune moment. Images from movies immediately popped up in my head, in which the main character's phone always rings at the wrong time, and the thief finds him. And these movies don't always end with happy endings.

My thoughts were dispersed by the sound of the phone ringing with a message. Hoping to see Rob's number, I quickly unlocked the phone. But the message was from Chris.

"Emma, what have you done? There is a whole disaster here because of you! Come to the dorm immediately!"

Only yesterday I had talked to Chris and everything was fine, but today it was very strange to get such a message from her. So I dialed her number. After a few rings, the call was dropped. I dialed again, but the same thing happened.

A few seconds later, I received another message from her:

"I can't talk. I urgently need your help!."
