I'm not going to skip school just because Travis is back to being the bane of my shitty life again. No, I search him out. I take my fight right to him. Of course, I'm riding shotgun in Annabelle's car on our way to school and I'm hopped up on three espresso shots and nervous as hell but I've been stewing about it all weekend. After no calls and no text messages from him I knew he'd most definitely ghosted me.
I mean how could I believe he was a virgin. I mean, he did come pretty quick so there's that. But that happens to guys when they've not had it in a while. But had Travis really not scored in a while? Some thoughts still didn't make sense to me but to hell with it all.
Travis is going to hear all about how much of a scum bag he is in front of the whole school. Maybe even the Friday night fight had been staged. He hadn't really beat Donny, had he? But I swear I saw his fist connect with his chin—I shove the thought to the back of my mind as we drive into the school's parking lot.
"So what are you going to say again when you see him?" Annabelle smiles big like she just can't wait to see it all go down. Whether I can wait for her to even be around when she's busy tagging along with Carlos, I don't know.
"I haven't decided. Punch him in the face, or in his big dick or—"
"Wait. Is it really big?"
I nod. "Yeah."
"That's a shame."
"Isn't it?"
I'm amped on caffeine and as soon as the car shuts off I'm out the door, not even giving a shit that I left my backpack behind. "Britt! Your backpack!"
"I'll get it later! When I get expelled..." I head for the halls, searching past every student shoving through to get to their lockers, and soon it's not me who finds him, it's him who finds me.
"Britt!" I hear his voice shout down the hall behind me. I turn and see him pushing kids out of his way. He comes storming up to me, the look of desperation on his face. "I know you don't want me talking to you but I got to know why...what the fuck did I—"
"What are you talking about? Don't play games with me. You're the one who lied."
"Lied? How?"
"You slept with another girl."
"Since when?"
"Since before you slept with me!" I snap back.
"Who told you that?"
"You did!" What games is Travis still trying to play? To think I'd thought he had grown a set of man-balls. I'm an idiot!
"Britt what the fuck are you talking about?"
"Don't give me that shit!" I shout. I don't care who sees us and it seems like the noise between us is gaining us an audience. I see some camera snaps and some people holding their phones up already at us. I give them the finger. The big huge Bird.
Travis raises his voice right back at me. "You texted me and told me you didn't want to see me again."
"Huh?" His comment totally grabs me by surprise. I see the hurt on his face but is this just another great act by Travis McDurn? "No—No don't think you're going to get away with lying to me anymore."
Travis pulls out his phone and shoves the phone into my hands.
"What? I don't need you trying to feed me bullshit." I try to hand it back but he holds his hands up in surrender.
"Just fucking look at it. Please?" His eyes are full of desperation. Either Travis will one day get an Emmy for his work as an actor or he's being honest. I'll find out soon enough.
