Ring! Ring! Ring! The sound of my phone wakes me up and I throw the sheets back looking for it. I stayed up so late last night that I forgot to put it on the charger and somehow lost it in the tangled sheets of Egyptian cotton.
"Where—" I start to say as I find it and see a message alert from Annabelle in big text on the screen.
Annabelle - IT HAPPENED!
I lean back against the headboard and type a message:
Brittney - Are you okay?
Annabelle - Yes! LOL I finally got the job at Putt 'N 'Round!
I smile to myself and let out a sigh of relief. I thought she meant she was in trouble for God only knows what.
Brittney - OH! Hell yeah!
Annabelle - I know! I'm so freaking happy! Finally my mom will get off my back about paying the cell phone bill. That shit is expensive. BTW where'd you end up last night?
Brittney - I'm IN Travis's bedroom! And still in his bed, and I can't seem to find my way out of it. LOL. Do you think you'll come over later, or is Carlos still wondering about his chesticles?
Annabelle - No shit? Lucky. No. We ended up ripping off his shirt and having a great time in bed. It was amazing. I'm officially a chest girl. Listen, I'll come by when I can get out of the house. Mom's got me mowing the front yard even though it's mostly just sand anyway, and then doing our laundry. Apparently she and your dad are more of a thing now and she wants her blouses cleaned and pressed and hung up. Not sure if this whole thing about setting our parents up is working out as we planned.
Brittney - Oh, damn. I wonder what my dad has in store for me then...
Annabelle - Not a problem. By the way guess who else got the job along with me? You got the job too!
Brittney - Really? Holy Shirt! Does that mean I have to wake up early mornings on the weekend?
Brittney - Holy shit*
Annabelle - Maybe. But it's perfectly a good reason to get some coffee and have money to even buy it so chill out. It'll be the best time of our lives. I gotta go. Mom's bitching about something. TTYL
Brittney - TTYL
Shit. A job? I guess it was bound to happen. It's probably a good thing anyway. No more asking dad for money to do stuff. Even though Travis foots the bill most of the time. I've asked where Travis' money comes since he doesn't have a job but he doesn't like to get too deep into it, something about his dad's life insurance policy and an allowance.
But I get what Annabelle said about wanting to have the chance at paying for food when she and Carlos go places together. Even when a guy comes along and sweeps a girl off of her feet she still likes her own kind of independence. Plus, she likes to get some things for her man, even if it's just a belly full of food or some sex wax for his surfboard.
I take a deep breath and try and tell myself to just enjoy what I have right now. I put the phone on the charger on Travis's nightstand and lay down, cozying up against his side. He groans in his sleep and his arms unconsciously snake around me, and his fingers grip my arm, snuggling me in closer to his body. I smile to myself as he groans some more and moans in his sleep. I wonder what he's dreaming about. I enjoy the feel of him against my skin. His heat feels so good in the cool chill of his room. I love how he always keeps it so cold. I sleep like an angel because of it, and so does he. He even looks like one with his lashes like crescent moons curving up above his cheeks. I'm really glad I get to hear if he snores or not because I don't think I could sleep if a guy was a big snorefest. He doesn't, thankfully.
