"I'll..." Quin thought for a moment. "I'll free your soul! I'll find some way, and I'll save you!" Quin promised her. She told him not to, that she was fine, but from that day forward, Quin was determined to save his little sister.
...
"A deal, you say?" The female overlord spoke.
"Yes, a soul for a soul," Quin replied.
"And what's in it for me?" The demon with vibrant hair looked at her hands as if to check her nails.
"I'll do whatever you say. I'll model for you, I'll do your dirty work, whatever. Whatever will set her free." Quin's voice was firm. He told Arailia he'd save her, and that's exactly what he's doing.
"Oh really?" Velvette looked back at him. "If all that's true, then we have a deal." She smiled a horribly evil grin at him. He knew this wasn't a smart idea, but he had no choice. Arailia didn't deserve this hell.
Quin signed the contract "Sebastion", and the deal was sealed.
...
Two years later, Arailia would fall to an Angel's hand during the extermination. Quin felt an unknowable pain as he grieved for years to come.
...
Quin feels tears start to stream down his face.
"Are you okay?" Lucifer asks, a look of concern on his face.
"Y-Yeah, just remembering a bit of my past," Quin looks away. "Do you, do you know what happens to souls who die by Angel's hands?"
Lucifer looks at him with a saddened face. "No, I don't. I'm sorry. Why do you ask?"
"I lost my sister three years ago," Quin has a pained expression.
"I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm sure she meant a lot to you," Lucifer attempts to be comforting, and he does a surprising good job.
"Yeah, she did. She still does," he looks up to the sky and smiles. "I hope she ended up up there some how."
Lucifer is silent for a moment. "Maybe." Lucifer puts his hand on Quin's. He looks up and stares at Lucifer, surprisingly more comforted than he thought he'd be. "I know what it's like to lose someone you deeply love..." he glances away, but then he looks back at Quin with a smile. "You're, you're not alone."
Quin feels an emotion he can't identify. Happiness? Security? Serenity? He can't pin point it. All he knows is that it feels good to have someone who understands.
"Thank you, Lucifer. Really," He smiles back. "That means you're not alone either."
From Quin's perspective, it almost looks like there are tears in Lucifer's eyes, but Quin isn't sure. They share another moment together, both of them finishing up their drinks. Quin feels, genuinely happy, now that he's finally found someone who understands him truly.
"I should get going, I've got, important things to attend to," Lucifer seems a little saddened, but he smiles anyways.
"Ah, yeah. I should probably get back too," Quin feels a little embarrassed at the fact he wishes he could spend just a little bit more time at this café with him.
They both awkwardly smile at each other. Slowly, it turns into a genuine smile. Lucifer opens the portal back up and waves Quin a goodbye. Quin steps through, waving a goodbye back. Thank you, Lucifer, for giving me this feeling of peace, even if it may be end up being brief.
When Quin returns, he sees Husker at the bar. He walks over and sits on one of the stools. "Hey."
"Hey," Husker replies, cleaning glasses. "You want a drink?"
"Nah, I'm good," Quin lays his arms on the counter and leans forward a little bit, putting his weight on his arms.
"Oh? Then what do you want?" Husker's face has a small smile on it. He seems to be in a decent mood.
"Company," Quin says, returning the smile. "Figured you wouldn't complain."
"Nah, you're right. Not worth the trouble of complaining," Husker lets out a chuckle. His face changes to a more serious look, but still a soft expression. "Why didn't you tell us you had fallen from heaven sooner? It's not like you committed some heinous act. In fact, you may be one of the only people here who hasn't."
Quin was silent for a moment. He decides to open up to Husker. "I was scared. The more time passed, the more I regretted my actions -- Hey, actually, I changed my mind about that drink." He laughs.
"I know that feeling. And alright, I'll make you one," Husker seems to be in a better mood these days. Quin is glad to see it.
"I honestly ended up believing that Adam was right, and I was wrong," Quin laughs, but it's not a genuine one.
"Really?" Husker finishes making Quin's drink and slides it over to him.
"Yeah. If I truly did the right thing, I would've stayed in heaven. I ended up in hell, so clearly I made some kind of mistake, right? That's at least what I used to think. Now, I know it's no where near as simple as that." Quin laughs again, still not a very genuine laugh. He takes a sip out of his drink.
"Yeah. Seems things aren't so black and white, huh?" Husker finishes up cleaning his glasses and pours himself a drink. "You know, I was an overlord once."
"Wait, really?" Quin looks at Husker with shock.
"Yeah. But when you like to gamble, and you're dealing in souls, a few bad hands can be more than devastating," Husker takes a sip of his drink. "When down on my luck, I turned to someone else, someone more powerful, for help, and that's why I'm here now."
Quin thought for a moment. OH! Alastor owns his soul! That must be, unpleasant, to say the least.
"We all make mistakes. It's just a matter of righting them before it's too late." Husker finishes off his drink. Quin is still sipping on his.
"Oh, fuck," Angel stumbles through the door.
"You look messy. What happened to you?" Niffty runs up to him and asks.
"It's who happened to me. And the answer is everyone. Twice," He starts to walk over to the couch. "Val had me working 16 hours straight on a fucking whim. The absolute dickbag." He flops onto the sofa.
Suddenly, the wall, the same one Sir Pentious broke, is blown up.
