Chapter 28: High Level Access

You wake up in the morning and found yourself in Xavier's house. Your head aches a little.

Y/N:
         (Why I am here...) Oh I remember we watch the Linkon Tower yesterday and... And...ugh (why can't I remember!)

You help yourself up. You look around and found Xavier still sleeping on the couch. You're planning to leave the house when Xavier speak.

Xavier:
          Aren't you gonna ask me about something before leaving?

You turn around and saw him laying in the couch, eyes closed.

Y/N:
          (He's right..) uhm.. about last night. Whatever i did.. though I can't remember anything.. I didn't mean it, okay?

Xavier stands up from laying and walk towards you. He smiled.

Xavier:
          Don't worry I can't remember anything too.

Y/N:
          Oh thank God..

You let out a sigh. You know to yourself that whenever you're drunk you always do embarrassing things. Xavier slightly laugh at your reaction. You look at him seriously and change the topic.

Y/N:
          But really.. I think that...You and Lumiere are definitely connected.

His face suddenly become serious.

Y/N:
          Ever since we met, you've been constantly looking for something.

Everything flashback before you. The moment he destroy every protocore and the time at the abandoned Research Base when he wipe out all Wanderers in a single light.

Y/N:
          You just destroy Protocores as if they're nothing when hunters know how important they are. You can kill a Wanderer that even a group of hunters would struggle against.

You continue on thinking.

Y/N:
          Not to mention, the "gossip" you heard about the N109 Zone is more in-depth than the info in the Association's databases. At the abandoned research base and in No-Hunt Zone No. 7... Maybe your goal aligns with mine as well as Onychinus's.

Xavier looks at you quietly, then flashes a faint smile.

Xavier:
          So are you here to confirm my connection to Lumiere or are you here for something in the N109 Zone?

Y/N:
          It doesn't matter. I'm just gathering information in a roundabout way.

You stand up and started to walk towards the door.

Y/N:
          But I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some ideas. I should go now.

Xavier lowers his gaze, seemingly lost in thought as he stares at his slippers. Then he breaks the silence with a question.

Xavier:
          The Protocore we found in the no-hunt zone had a red Protocurve. Do you know why?

Your feet stop. The air seems to freeze for a moment. You feel like you've grasped the unspoken meaning behind his words.

Y/N:
          (He'll only reveal his cards when he's certain I'm on the same page as him.)

You take a deep breath and say...

Y/N:
          It's an Aether Core, right?

Hearing the words "Aether Core," Xavier's eyes widen, a hint of indiscernible emotion appearing. Yet he soon returns to being nonchalant.
