It's been a week since the Hero incident where Jubilee stepped in. Wilbur hasn't come by the cafe since either. My sleep was terrible, and on top of it my back had started to hurt a lot again.
"I'm sorry." Jubilee stood in front of me. What I could see of his face looked regretful.
"I don't care. Fuck off Jubilee" Spiting his name I turned way from him. We were on a rooftop, my first patrol in a week. It felt nice to be out again, but still nerve racking. My teammates had not mentioned anything about what happened, but I could see just from Purpleds expression he was practically telling me 'I warned you'. And that was just not what I needed at the time.
"Please, just let me explain!" Jubilee jogged up behind me, catching up. Scoffing, I rolled my eyes underneath my mask.
"What is there to explain Jubilee? I was wrong to ever think you were different. You're just like all the other Vigilantes." Glaring at him I continued to trudge away from him.
"You don't understand! I can't fight them. I cant let anyone hurt them." Scoffing again I didn't pause, just walking.
"I cant let people hurt my Family!" At his words I froze, eyes widening under my mask. Whipping around I stared at him incredulously. This isn't something he would lie about. I know him that much.
"What" my voice was tight as I spoke. Jubilee sighed, exhaustion filling his voice as he slid down the roof wall, slumping against it as he looked up at the sky.
"You're the first person I've told about this. Angel and Aries don't even know it. I mean, how could I even tell them. You hear all about Te-Aries's loathing for Vigilantes. I don't think I would be able to see that look of disgust on my brother's face. My twin nonetheless." Not speaking I sat down next to him, listening intently as he spilled out his heart to me. Some random Villain he met and decided that he trusted.
"Whenever they tell me they are leaving for work, I have to hide the fact that I know what kind of danger they are truly in, what job they actually have. Even though they are my family, I can't help being terrified of them. When I see my brother training I can't help seeing him as Aries, using those deadly accurate strikes against me. Whenever I get injured, I have to hide it in fear that one little slip up will get me caught. It fucking sucks." Jubilee rested his face in his hands, groaning in defeat.
There was a pause, silence filling the air before I spoke.
"...Damn, that sucks, want a lollipop?" Grabbing a lollipop from my pocket I handed it to him.
"I just poured my heart out to you, and your response is asking me if I want a lollipop!?" Jubilee said incredulously.
"I DON'T KNOW!? I'm not good with this kind of thing! Do you want the damn candy or not!?" Jubilee grumbled but snatched the sweet from my hand. Unwrapping it, he pouted as he ate it, looking like a child who was just scolded, hunching over himself, legs drawn to his chest.
"So...Um...Do you want to talk about it more?" I asked awkwardly. Jubile huffed out a sigh.
"Nah, it's fine. I think I got it all about anyways." Nodding I hummed in acknowledgment.
"If you ever find yourself caught in a fight with them, contact me. Here, take this. It was about time that you had an upgrade of your gear a bit anyway." Handing him my spare communicator I scoffed.
"The only contact there is mine and my teammates. I can delete those for you." Quickly fiddling with it I deleted the other contacts. "And this button connects you to police radios so If you ever are getting bored on a patrol you can go to the crime instead of waiting for it to come to you. It links up to this earpiece so you don't have to be looking at it all the time cause that can be quite risky." Continuing to explain it to him I didn't see his shocked expression.
"Why are you giving this to me?" Grumbling in annoyance I gave the com to him again.
"Because, I would prefer for you to be alive rather than dead, who else would annoy me on my patrols. Plus, I would hate to be forced to fight against my family. If I can help you with yours, I think that it would be enough for me." Trying not to flinch I pushed back the familiar echo of cold laughter. The sound has haunted my nightmares for months now.
There was never an image or a hint of where the laugh was coming from. But the laughter was accompanied by a sharp pain in my back and screaming, my screaming. I would wake up covered in sweat, my blankets tangled around me.
"Thanks. I mean it Cherry. Thank you." Rolling my eyes I smiled.
"Don't thank me until I actually help you. But if you get injured again I will personally tie you down and kidnap a hero to heal you. Don't test my patience Jubilee, I will do it." Jubilee laughed.
A thought entered my mind and so turned to Jubilee. "Taking into account that your Dad is Angel, what kind of Avian is he? Definitely not a Glider. Possibly just a regular Avian. Elytran? Flenix?" I leaned towards the vigilante, waiting Adamantly for his answer.
"Considering you're a villain, I don't know if I should be telling you his information. If he were to tell you himself then it would be ok. But that's something for you to ask him yourself." Jubilee answered a bit awkwardly. Scoffing and rolling my eyes I leaned back against the wall.
"Ah yes, because I can just ask a top hero about their hybrid features, I'm just one of the most wanted villains in the city, of course they will tell me!" Sarcasm dripped from my voice as I spoke. Jubilee groaned but smiled nonetheless.
"Fine, if you must know he is an Elytran." Sitting up I looked at him in surprise.
"Huh, that's different than before." Muttering to myself I recalled a few snipers from the past.
"What do you mean 'different then before?' What happened before?" Jubilee looked at me suspiciously.
"No, just some theories online. Nothing important." Rushing off the vigilante's question I stood up.
"As fun as it was chatting and catching up, I should head back now. Have a nice patrol Jubilee." Saluting to the vigilante I jumped off the roof. Landing in the alley below I sprinted away.
I refuse to accept it, but I'm happy me and Jubilee are still friends. I've also been waiting for the perfect time to give him his own com. It was starting to get on my nerves that he had nothing to tell him where the crime was.
"Took you long long enough." Purpled greeted me as I walked into our base under the cafe.
"I had some things to settle, chill Purpled, I'm fine." Purpled rolled his eyes at my words.
"Sure you are. It's not like you totally fell apart when that stupid Vigilante betrayed you or anything." Glaring at Purpled I turned and stormed off. It scared me that I genuinely had the urge to attack Purpled when he insulted Jubilee. Purpled was my friend, and I barely know the Vigilante, so why am I so prepared to defend him?
