i said bye to everyone because me and matt were a couple rows behind them. our parents were in first class with nick while we were in business class.
matt and i awkwardly walked to our seats and once we found them we sat. matt was sitting in the window seat and i was in the seat in the middle. some random middle age man was in the aisle seat.
as i get comfortable and put in my airpods i get a text from a random number.

*ellie changed the contact name to "jake"*
me hi jake, yeah it's ellie.
jake where are you headed?
me i'm flying to new york right now.
while texting jake i notice matt looking at my phone. he looks angry. why does he even care.

jake no way me too. but my flight leaves at 11. when does urs?
me no shot that's crazy. mine leaves like now.
jake alr we'll have a safe flight bye ellie, hope to see u.
me yeah ty byee.
i put down my phone after texting jake and smile. i don't know why i am smiling it's not like i like him. i don't think.. i mean he's cute but there's nothing that exciting about him.
"don't date him. i can tell he's just like riley." matt speaks up.
"you don't even know him matt." i reply.
"i just don't want you to get hurt again." matt says actually serious.
"how do you know jake would hurt me." i said.
"he just seems like one of those guys." matt said.
"you have never even had a girlfriend so how would you know." i snapped back.
"look, i'm trying to look out for you. stop being an asshole." matt says.
"okay well i don't even want him so it doesn't matter." i reply.
"good." he says then puts on his headphones.
why is matt suddenly looking out for me after hating me for 4 years. maybe he was right i think i just need to try to be nice to him on this trip because it seems like he is making an effort to be somewhat nice to me. maybe he just feels bad for me because riley broke up with me. but i think he got the satisfaction of me realizing riley was just an asshole because he has hated riley since the day he met him. this doesn't make any sense.
i can't stop thinking about what matt said. "i just don't want you to get hurt again". does he actually care about me that much?
before the plane takes off i text my kinley.

as we took off i continued to listen to music and played games on my phone and matt just listened to music and zoned out staring at the chair infront of him.
