The café buzzed with the lively chatter of patrons, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the scent of baked goods. Mirio sat at a cosy corner table, his bright smile unwavering as he scanned the room for a familiar face. It had been weeks since he and Y/N had last seen each other, their missions keeping them apart for far too long. Today, however, they finally had a chance to catch up and spend some quality time together.
Mirio’s heart leapt when he saw Y/N walk through the door. Her eyes lit up as she spotted him, and she hurried over, her smile mirroring his. He stood up to greet her, wrapping her in a warm embrace that felt like coming home.
“I’ve missed you so much, Y/N,” he murmured into her hair, inhaling her familiar scent.
“I’ve missed you too, Mirio,” she replied, squeezing him tightly before pulling back to look at him. “You look great. How have you been?”
“Busy, but it’s all worth it now that we’re here together,” he said, guiding her to her seat. “You look amazing, as always.”
They settled into a comfortable rhythm, sharing stories of their recent missions, laughing at the absurd moments, and marvelling at the challenges they had faced. Mirio’s heart swelled with pride as he listened to Y/N recount her experiences, her eyes sparkling with passion and determination.
As they enjoyed their coffee and pastries, Mirio couldn’t help but notice a slight change in Y/N’s demeanour. She shifted in her seat, a faint crease of discomfort appearing on her forehead. Concerned, he reached across the table to take her hand.
“Are you okay, Y/N?” he asked gently.
She forced a smile, nodding. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just a little tired, I guess.”
Mirio’s keen eyes didn’t miss the subtle signs of unease, but he decided not to press her further, trusting that she would tell him if something was truly wrong. They continued their conversation, but Y/N’s discomfort seemed to grow, her movements more restless.
As she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen, she excused herself to the restroom, and Mirio watched her go, his concern deepening. When she returned, her face was pale, and she looked visibly distressed.
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” he asked, standing up and moving to her side.
She hesitated, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. “Mirio, I think... I think I just got my period. I didn’t realize it was coming, and... and I think I leaked through my clothes.”
Mirio’s heart ached for her. He could see how mortified she was, and he immediately slipped into action mode. “Don’t worry, Y/N. Let’s get you out of here and back home. I’ll take care of everything.”
He quickly paid the bill and wrapped his jacket around her waist to help cover the stain. With a reassuring smile, he led her out of the café, keeping his arm around her shoulders in a protective gesture.
The walk home was quiet, Y/N’s head bowed in embarrassment. Mirio kept up a steady stream of lighthearted conversation, doing his best to distract her from the situation. When they finally reached their apartment, he ushered her inside and closed the door behind them.
“Go take a shower and change into something comfortable,” he said softly. “I’ll take care of your clothes and get everything ready for you.”
Y/N nodded, feeling tears of relief prickling in her eyes. She hurried to the bathroom, grateful for the privacy and the chance to clean up. As she showered, she let the warm water soothe her, washing away the stress and embarrassment of the situation.
When she emerged from the bathroom, dressed in comfortable clothes, she found Mirio in the kitchen, preparing a hot water bottle and setting out some painkillers. He had also made a pot of tea and was rummaging through the pantry for snacks.
“Mirio, you didn’t have to do all this,” she said, touched by his thoughtfulness.
“Nonsense,” he replied with a smile. “You need to take it easy and rest. I’m here to take care of you.”
He handed her a hot water bag, which she gratefully placed on her aching abdomen. They settled on the couch, Mirio wrapping a cosy blanket around her shoulders. He handed her a cup of tea and sat down next to her, his arm gently draped around her.
“Feeling a bit better?” he asked, his blue eyes filled with concern.
Y/N nodded, leaning into his comforting presence. “Yes, much better. Thank you, Mirio.”
He kissed her forehead, his touch gentle and reassuring. “Anything for you, Y/N. You’re my priority.”
They spent the rest of the afternoon curled up on the couch, watching movies and chatting softly. Mirio made sure she was comfortable, attending to her every need with a smile. His unwavering support and care made Y/N feel cherished and loved, turning what could have been a mortifying experience into a testament to their bond.
“Is there anything else you need?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
“No, this is perfect,” she said, leaning into his embrace. “You’re perfect.”
They sat together in comfortable silence, the warmth of Mirio’s presence and the soothing tea helping Y/N relax. As the evening wore on, they watched movies and talked about their plans for the future, their bond growing even stronger through the shared moment of vulnerability.
Mirio’s gentle care and unwavering support reminded Y/N of just how lucky she was to have him in her life. Despite the initial embarrassment, the day had turned into a reminder of the deep love and trust they shared.
As the night grew late, Y/N nestled closer to Mirio, feeling safe and cherished in his arms. “I love you, Mirio,” she whispered, her voice filled with emotion.
“I love you too, Y/N,” he replied, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “And I always will.”
Y/N looked up at Mirio, her heart swelling with gratitude and love. “I’m so lucky to have you, Mirio.”
He smiled, his eyes crinkling with warmth. “I’m the lucky one, Y/N. You’re amazing, and I’m so glad we’re together.”
They shared a tender kiss, their hearts beating in sync. At that moment, Y/N knew that no matter what challenges they faced, they would always have each other’s backs. And that was more than enough.
