Sternenhafen sits at the more rural area of the lands. It stands in between the water bodies and the land of mountains, giving the country an adventurous vibe. I've fallen in love with the place. The nature is truly astonishing and the animals treat me better than the people here.
As I walk along the coast, taking in the breeze of the ocean in the serene atmosphere. The sun was almost setting when I heard a voice calling out my name. "Yara! Over here," my friend, Amelia chimes out. I look over towards her to see my two friends setting up for our picnic.
The two are my roommates and probably the best of friends I could have ever asked for. We would do everything together. Amelia was outstandingly friendly and considerate. She was as gorgeous as an eclipse and her fashion sense was immaculate. As for Sipher, he was more outgoing and hyper than I could ever be. He was the sun that helped me shine when no one else would. I yearn to be just like him.
I see them both as my own family.
As I sit down with them on the picnic blanket, Sipher passes me a cupcake. When I accept it, I take a small bite. "We heard what happened during your potion class," Amelia giggles out as my mouth hangs open slightly. My cheeks dusted with a red hue of embarrassment, looking away from the both of them as I hear them both laugh.
I had completely embarrassed myself during my potion class. Word in Zephyr Academy spreads like wildfire. "Where'd you hear that?!" I ask. They say they heard it around the hallways. Of course, it was always full of gossip. "It's amusing, yea, but you should still be more careful," Amelia clarifies. I shrug as we continue our playful banter on the sand.
After the pleasant picnic, the sun is now starting to set, so we pack up to return to our dorm. I pick up the basket before we walk along the beach together. The tides seem to be getting stronger. Taking another look at the setting sun, I want to stay here longer, so I inform Amelia and Sipher that I want to stay for longer. They nod before continuing on without me. I look up at the horizon before freezing the area of water beneath my feet. Feeling the wind in my hair, daydreaming about a life where I was more..
Talkative.
I feel a presence nearby. Turning my gaze from the horizon to the direction of the presence, I see a masked figure. He had a sturdy physique. His hair is damp and so was his attire. His shirt was almost clinging onto his body as if he was flexing his physique. I notice that he's heading my way, that's something that alarms me. I drag my breath for a few seconds before gaining the courage to give him a small, crooked smile.
He throws a water ball my way from the palm of his hand. I freeze it with the tip of my finger as he walks closer towards me. Now, he's merely a few steps away from me. Taking a heavy breath, he speaks my name. "Ayanna," He says. I have no idea who this guy is. Standing there in confusion, I look up at him. The man throws a big ball of water on me, getting me completely wet. I could tell that he is silently laughing at me while I push my hair out of my face. By the time I'm able to see clearly again, he has disappeared.
I had failed to capture a vision of his face. I turn my head around, observing the area before making out that he has vanished.
I wonder what would have happened if I spoke back. I feel incapable of communicating in the most simplest ways. It gets me overwhelmed, scared even.
As I walk into the dorm, Amelia and Sipher who are sitting on the couch greet me. I wave back when Sipher raises an eyebrow at my wet body. "Could've invited us to go swimming," He states sarcastically, folding his arms over his chest. "I fell in," I lie, rolling my eyes at him. Moving towards my room, I shut the door behind before deciding to take a shower. I take a warm shower for a good thirty minutes before getting out. Slumping on my bed, I start to wonder about the man I had met.
The vibe he gives off gives me the heebie-jeebies.
I move out of my bed, dragging myself towards my desk at the corner of my room. Sitting down, I pick up a pencil and grab a piece of paper from the drawer. From memory, I start sketching the figure of the man. I've always hated whatever I sketched, they were always so funky looking. I crumbled up the paper, tossing it into the trash bin.

I walk through the hallways with books in my arms, walking alongside Amelia. Sipher had already left for class since he's a year younger than the both of us. Amelia was always the type to gossip over the smallest and apparent topics. She treats me like a daughter sometimes. It gets annoying sometimes. Although, it's quite thoughtful of her.
We stop in front of her locker as I wait for her to collect her books for the first class. "Yara, are you alright? You're not very talkative today," She shoots a look of concern at me. "I'm fine, I just have my mind scattered is all," I reply. She frowns at me, probably getting the gist that I really don't want to talk about it. I hear her sigh before we move on towards our class.
We take a seat at our usual desks, waiting for the teacher to come in and start the lesson. History class is the only class Amelia and I have together. The rest, I push through alone. The chatter in the classroom was loud. I could hear giggling and laughs from around me. Like any other day, Amelia and I weren't talking. I had always hesitated to speak out my thoughts. I had taken in the belief that whatever I say doesn't really matter. Amelia and Sipher had already adjusted to that by now.
I watch a student walk inside, taking the seat in front of us. I had always had eyes for this student. His name was Zaiden Ezekiel. I noticed quite a while ago that I have most of my classes with him. I've been wanting to befriend him for the longest time now, then maybe I'd have a friend to accompany me to my classes but I'd be too shy to even introduce myself.
Amelia and Sipher have been hyping me up over my complaints and constant statements about wanting to be friends with him. But no matter how hard I try, I just can't get past the confronting stage. Damn, It sucks being awkward.
As I'm lost in my thoughts, Amelia nudges me from the side, breaking my train of thought. I look around in confusion, people are staring at me. Amelia whispers to me that the teacher walked in about fifteen minutes ago and I'm supposed to read aloud. I panic inside, moving my gaze towards Miss Hannah. She gestures for me to stand up, and so I did.
Looking down at my textbook, my vision goes blurry. I can't make up any words on the page. My peripheral vision scans the room, my breathing was ragged and uneven.. The silence is overwhelming, and the ringing in my ear makes me sick to the pit of my stomach. Sweat rolls down my forehead. It's embarrassing that I'm afraid of even opening my mouth.
I barely even hear the teacher calling out my name in concern. I look up from my textbook, standing up straight to see my teacher right in front of my desk. "You know if you're feeling unwell, you can go straight to the nurses' office, right?" She clarifies. I nod my head as an understanding answer before sitting back down. The lesson continues on but I can't help to overhear some girls from behind me giggling about it.
Hearing them make fun of me leaves an uneasy feeling in the bottom of my stomach, trying to steady my breaths so that I don't look too vulnerable. With eyes on me, I no longer feel comfortable here. The foul words that elicit from their lips makes me realize that I just don't belong here.
It's okay, Yara. Only two more classes left before lunch.
