Upon hearing the explosion, my group mates and I turn towards the direction of the accident. My eyes widen when I see Yara on the floor, covered in ashes. Thankfully no fire was set and it was simply a gush of ash that came out of the cauldron. Unfortunately, the group was covered in the potion they were making and the cauldron is literally shattered. Why is no one lending a hand?
Although there are two other individuals who were involved in the situation, my eyes are only on Yara. Without another thought, I approach Yara who was still coughing on the floor. Crouching down to her level, she looks up at me. I'd like to laugh at her, but I'm afraid she might get angry at me. I take out my handkerchief and wipe away the ashes off her face. She's adorable in every situation, even when she's covered in ashes.
I carefully wipe the area around her eyes. Her sclera looks a bit red and irritated. I can't help but to frown at her watery eyes. I hope she still doesn't think my handkerchief is dirty, I just washed it. I let out a chuckle when I see a faint tint of red rise up to her cheeks. As I stand up, I pull her up with me. Her clothes are dirty from the potion. Thankfully it was a failure, or else all three of them would turn into faeries. Which is something I wouldn't like to see.
"Ahem, excuse me," I hear someone clear their throat behind me. Ah, Holden. I turn around to see the two winged people. "We're here too, you know?" Chantelle utters and my hand raises up to scratch behind my neck. She's tall. Taller up close than normal. My eyes trail back towards Yara as she's dusting off her shirt.
The teacher doesn't look too happy about what had happened. "Next time, make a potion that is inside the textbook," she puts her hands on her hips before continuing. "You three get a ticket to detention," and with that, the three leave the room. My eyes don't leave Yara until she walks out. Before she does so, she shoots me a warm smile and it's the most adorable thing ever. My heart is almost pounding out of my chest.
Kian lays his elbow on my shoulder, giving me a sly smirk. "She smiled," he tells me, acting like I didn't see that. I roll my eyes as my gaze fixates onto the potion in his hand that we already bottled. We had made a lunaria potion. A potion that would make the user be able to grow lunaria flowers out of the tips of their fingers for a week. Some say, it holds secrets. There have been cases where the user fails to control it and starts growing inside of their bodies. I snatch it from Kian and he attempts to snatch it back. I let out a gush of water from my palm, aiming at him to keep him away. He lets out a chuckle, but his expression quickly falters when I throw the bottle onto the floor, shattering it completely.
"Hey, we worked hard for that!" he yelled angrily. I only did that to relieve some anger but I noticed something in the puddle of the potion. "Wait, look," I say, pointing towards the puddle on the floor. We both approach it to get a better look and my eyes widen. It shows a masked man, his physique was more muscular than Kian's that I might laugh at. A hood covered his head, nothing of him could be seen except for his arms since he was wearing a sleeveless hoodie. He lifts his mask, revealing just his mouth. He's grinning so wide, any girl will swoon over him just by falling for how attractive his mouth looks. Those snake bites piercings on his lower lip alone makes him look so attractive.
"Ayanna," I hear and I'm alarmed. His voice sounds just like mine, I feel so lost. The voice is not coming from anywhere else but my head. It echoes through and I can't think straight anymore. What does Yara's surname have to do with this man?
I'm having lunch with Sipher again and I told him what happened during potions class. "Is she okay? She's not injured, right?" his voice is filled with worry and I reassure him that she's alright. A boy approaches us and Sipher seems to recognize him. I greet him as he takes a seat next to Sipher. "I'm Ethan, you're Zaiden, correct?" he asks and I nod. We chat about our lives and Ethan brings up if I have a crush. "It's Yara," Sipher answers for me and I look away from the two as they giggle amongst themselves. These two seem to share the same brain cell, both are acting like middle grade girls that used to bully me. "You should take her out, her favorite place to hang out is the beach," Sipher says and I'm quite intrigued by that Idea. Maybe I should. This evening.
We chat for a good while, talking nonsense about what I like about Yara. I spill everything to these two like I've known them longer than Yara. I excuse myself to the bathroom. On the way, I grab my bag from the locker and take it to the bathroom with me. I take out a mask from my bag, staring at it as I use my fingers to trace the design.

I'm standing in front of my mirror, fixing my outfit before heading out while I put on my canvas sling bag. It was a gift from my mother before I left Mondstein for Sternenhafen to study in Zephyr Academy. Mondstein is my hometown, and it's also the place I met Yara while chasing down butterflies in the forest. I've known her since we were eleven. I didn't know she decided to study in Zephyr Academy as well.
I knock on the door and Amelia answers it. "Yara here?" I ask and Amelia calls out for Yara. Yara appears behind Amelia and pushes her away. "Hi," she greets me to block out the thud from Amelia falling. "You wanna go for a walk?" I offer and she nods, disappearing back into the dorm. She comes back around ten minutes later, wearing a pretty white sundress and a violet cardigan my mother knitted for her as a gift before she left Mondstein. I take her wrist and lead her towards the beach.
"Yara," I say, and she looks up at me. "You're not mad at me, right? For being so reckless last Saturday," she chuckles and I'm not sure why; but I like it when she's happy. "I'm not mad," her lips curl up into a smile as we walk hand in hand across the shore. We sit down on the sand, looking out into the horizon. I set my bag down in front of us and pull the zip open, reaching in for a lunchbox. I hand her it and put my bag aside. Opening it, reveals some mini chicken pies inside. She looks hungry so I let her take one to eat. I take one as well before we exchange some conversation.
"Sipher told me I was the star of your little conversation," she makes a statement and I almost choke on my food. That dude is such a snitch. "I'd like to think that you don't like me, but do you really?" she asks me. Wow, she's talkative today. Usually she doesn't talk at all, but today maybe she's just a bit more comfortable with me or it might be the chicken pie. "I only like you as a friend," I lie. "You said I had nice lips. Who says that?" she giggles and now I'm starting to feel nervous. I let out the most tense laugh which makes me look bad.
I don't answer but I look back at her. The chicken pie is inhaled by her, but she's eyeing mine. I let her take a bite out of mine. She took a pretty big bite for a small mouth. "Is this your mother's recipe?" she asks and I nod. Yara and I share the same favorite food, my mother would make it for us every weekend. I learnt my mother's recipe and I would make it myself every now and then.
"Hey, Yara?" I look back into the horizon, the sun had set and sunlight leaving with it. She responds with a melodious hum of approval. "I really want to see you happy again. Not just with me, but with all of your friends," I say, but she stands up. Is she upset with what I said? I can't tell what she's thinking about. I stand up but she just laughs so hard at my panicked expression. "Look at your face," she's breathless from her own laughing and I think she might be making fun of me.
My lips rolled up into a smile and I grab her by the wrist, pulling her closer. She almost instantaneously stops laughing. "You should see the look on your face," I smirk and she looks completely dumbfounded, almost enchanting. Her breathing was shallow and breathy, I want to calm her down. "Take off your shoes," I say as I kick off my shoes. She takes hers off and I drag her to towards the wave. My pants are wet, but I couldn't care less.
"What are you doing?"
