Our class was released earlier than usual for lunch time. Sitting at one of the lunch tables with my best friend, Kian. We place our trays onto the table as I take a seat. Kian and I chat as we eat while the cafeteria slowly fills up when he spots his girlfriend and her friend walking alongside each other, holding their trays. Kian waves towards them, gesturing for them to sit at our table.
Amelia and Sipher sit down across from us, greeting the both of us before chattering amongst themselves.
I've been quite familiar with Amelia but we don't really talk much. She's Kian's girlfriend. He talks non-stop about her. It's just annoying sometimes. As for Sipher, I'm not really familiar with him since he's one of the juniors. But for some reason, I always see him hanging around two girls who are a year older than him. One of them would be Amelia.
"Yara not here again?" Kian asks, taking the duo out of their gossip. "Unfortunately, she said she needed time alone. We haven't seen her since history class," Amelia replies. There was a look of worry plastered on her face. "We tried looking in the library where we always find her, but she's nowhere to be found," Sipher continues.
"Yara? Yara Ayanna?" I say her name to make sure that we're thinking of the same page. They all nod at me. I have almost all my classes with the girl. I don't know much about her but she's a very quiet person.
"If it makes you guys feel better, I saw her in math class before lunch," I say in an attempt to reassure them.
"Where did you last see her?" Kian asks, as if he was actually concerned for this girl's wellbeing. Although, I'm pretty sure he's not. I only shrug, answering that I had only seen her in math the last time.
After eating, Sipher left after excusing himself that he had a group project he needed to finish. As for Kian, he had completely ditched me saying that he wanted to spend time with Amelia. Since there was still ample time before the classes started, I had been given the task to seek for Yara at the request of Sipher. It had been years since I've spoken to Yara, let alone heard her voice in the span of those years. However, something about her makes her so alluring. I could never deny that I might have a tiny crush on her. Just a teeny one I must say, nothing much.
As I walk around the school, I decide to check the courtyard first. I head out through one of the many doors, immediately scanning the place. The crunching of dry leaves underneath my shoes irritates my ear drums, but I carry on looking. "Why do I have to look for someone I barely even know?" I huff, mumbling under my breath as I kick at the leaves beneath my feet. After double checking the area, I turn around to head to the next area when a girl bumps into me. What's with girls always bumping into me?
I apologize, looking down to see a familiar person. I watch her fix her hair frantically before handing me an envelope. I felt a bit stunned, then I remembered that she's in my science class, Inara. "Could you pass this to Yara when you can?" She asks. I instantly let out a sigh of relief when she said that. "What? Did you think this was for you?" I feel a red hue dust up to my cheeks, averting my gaze away from hers. This is embarrassing.. Taking the letter from her hand, I hurry back into the building.
Back in class, I place the envelope on Yara's table as I make my way to mine, not even batting her an eye. Sitting at my desk, I noticed that she was looking at me in a way that made my stomach flutter. I catch myself smiling to myself and a red hue of fluster appearing at the tips of my ears, quickly hiding it with my arms when my seatmate asks me if I'm alright. What's it with people confusing love and sickness these days?
I've been yearning to befriend her for the longest time now, but I'm too nervous to initiate the first move. These past few weeks, I've noticed that she's been looking at me more than anyone else. Could you believe that? Yara Ayanna has her eyes on me! Out of all the students in this school, she chose to admire me. How adorable can she get?
The way her hair frames her face perfectly, and how one could get lost so easily in those violet orbs you call eyes. Although she seems uninterested in me, I have a feeling that with the help of Sipher and Amelia, she'll eventually come around and try to talk to me.
Lost in thought, I feel my seatmate nudge me on the shoulder, snapping me out of my reverie. "Dude, pay attention, the teacher has been glaring at our desk for the past five minutes," He whispers out. I let out a soft chuckle. "Come on, we both know that half the class here isn't paying attention,"
He rolls his eyes at me before fixating his gaze back to the front of the class. Why do I always get the annoying seatmates?
In the hallways after classes end, I spot Kian with Amelia, alongside Sipher as I walk out of the classroom. As I'm about to approach my best friend, I feel someone run into my back so my first reaction is to instantaneously turn around. I meet a pair of violet eyes looking up at me. We maintain eye contact without any words before she averts her gaze, looking down at the ground. Her lips. Pouting ever so slightly as she frowned at me.
"Sorry," She apologizes before hastily walking away from me.
That was most probably the first time in years I had heard her speak. Her voice had changed over the years but that euphonious tone to it still remained. She had gotten even cuter up close as well. The way she looked at me.. Yeah, she definitely likes me back. I chuckle to myself before stopping because that felt insanely weird in the eyes of the public. My cheeks dusted with a red hue of embarrassment at the thought of knowing someone could have been watching me while I chuckled awkwardly to myself.
I feel Kian come up to me and props his elbow on my shoulder with Sipher standing in front of us. "I didn't know those types of girls were your type," Kian states with a wide grin stretching on his face. "She's not," I reluctantly answered. "She's just a classmate," Kian raises a brow and gives Sipher a glance as if to say, can you believe this guy?
Sipher clears his throat before turning to me. He looks like he's about to kill me. A drop of sweat rolls down my forehead.
"Can you please help me with my math homework?" He asks, emphasizing on his pleas. "My friends are stupid, Amelia is always hanging out with Kian, and Yara is always cooped up in her room all day!" My gaze softens at his reasoning. There's no possible harm in helping a junior out so I oblige.
"That's great, are you free right now? We can go straight to my dorm," He insists, although I'm hesitant to accept and he seems to notice that and glances at Kian for a moment before looking back at me. "Don't worry, Kian is coming along," He reassures.
I need time to think this through. I also have to see Inara again. "Alright then, just give me a moment, I have to meet with someone really quick,"
They both nod as I turn around to leave.
