8 | we're always late

"Colby stop. Don't do that!"

Sam was in his mom mode as he walked behind Colby who was racing towards the airport before the check in closed.

"Well if I don't we'll miss the check in." Colby had his and Serena's suitcase while Sam was rushing behind him trying not to trip and fall face first.

Colby stopped at a counter abruptly startling the poor girl working there. "Hi we're on the 9 am flight to Eureka springs?" The girl looked to be in her early twenties. She checked her computer. "You're right on time." She smiled eyeing Colby whose hands were placed on the counter.

Colby glared at Sam who just shrugged. "Well we're always late. Good thing right?"

"He almost broke my damned suitcase." Serena smacked Sam on the head.

"You're Sam and Colby right? I'm a huge fan!"

"Yeah we are, it's nice to meet you." Sam replied while Colby smiled at her.

"I like your tattoos." They heard the girl speak again who was trying to flirt with Colby which was honestly comical as he paid next to no attention to her.

"Oh uh thanks. S you need your bag with you? In case you need anything?"The girl behind the counter glared at Serena. "No I'm good I've got everything in my bag pack." The boy nodded placing it on the belt.

Sam did the same with his bag handing their tickets and ids to the blonde girl who checked her computer. "Uh I'm sorry but there's no three seats together, so I'm putting Mr Golbach and Mr Brock together and Ms Vitolo three rows behind?" She looked at them.

Serena immediately stiffened knowing her social anxiety. "Um that's fine, I'll just take Serena's seat you can sit with Colby." Sam suggested.

God he's an angel.

"Yeah or I don't mind taking your seat S." Colby patted her arm in assurance making her smile.

The girl scoffed under her breath. "Oh I'm sorry that seat just got booked online. So what do you want me to do now?" Sam rolled his eyes. "Um well anything is fine as long as they're near."

"Okay here you go, this was the nearest I could do." She handed them their boarding passes. "Also could I get a picture with the two of you?" She asked.

"Yeah sure." Sam beckoned her over. The girl handed me her phone as she stood between the boys who respectfully kept their hands to themselves. Colby did a peace sign.

Serena took a few pictures and showed them to the girl. "Thank you! It was really nice to meet my idols." She gushed. "You too, it's nice to meet a supporter every now and then." Colby gave a small smile.

"Okay let's go guys." Sam nodded towards the security check.

After they were done with security, they sat near the gate waiting for their boarding to start. "I'm gonna go get coffee, do you guys need anything?"

"This is like your second coffee of the day and it's not even 10 am." Sam pointed out. "My stomach hurts, and apparently in some sick way coffee helps with my cramps or sprite does but I feel a sore throat coming on so I'm avoiding that for now."

The boys looked at each other confused and shrugged. "Okay I'll come along, Colby you want anything?" Sam stood up to accompany Serena.

"Nah I'm good, get me a water though."

Sam followed Serena to a nearby Starbucks. "Hi how are you today? My name is Mikhail, How can I help you?" The man behind the counter asked. "Hi I'm good, thank for asking. Can I get a hot vanilla late?"

The man nodded noting it down. "Sam what do you want?" Sam browsed the menu and decided on a cake pop. "You're getting a cake pop at what 9 in the morning?" The blonde just shrugged in return.

"You two look cute, are you guys a couple?" He asked. Serena awkwardly laughed. "Uh no we're just friends." Sam scratched the back of neck tapping his shoes. "Aw that's too bad cause honey if a guy looks like that, I'd be all over him."

This caused Sam to blush. "Uh thank you."

You should look at his best friend, then we'll see.

"Can I get a name for your order?"

"It's Serena."

"That's a pretty name. Italian?" The man asked. "Sort of Italian from dad's side, Russian from mom's." The man laughed. "Oh my god no way! I'm half Russian too! My boyfriend actually is Italian as a matter of fact."

"That's amazing!" She smiled. She scanned her phone to pay. "Well it was nice to meet you Mikhail."

"You too!" He handed Sam his cake pop who thanked him too.

The two walked back to where Colby sat. "Well someone had a crush." Serena smirked. "Who did?" Colby asked.

"The guy at Starbucks totally had the hots for Samuel here." Serena laughed. "He just said that he had a boyfriend." Sam argued. "So? Doesn't mean you can't admire someone."

"Nah he was just delusional. He also thought we were together." He gestured between them. "Did he now?" Colby looked at the Starbucks trying to see the guy.

"Yeah that was kinda awkward I mean we don't radiate that energy do we?" Serena asked. "I don't know to be honest." Sam answered smirking at his best friend's reaction. "Well boarding started when you were getting your stuff, so let's go." Colby grabbed Serena's bag pack for her before getting in line.
