It wasn't Seungmin's day...The boy knew it as soon as he opened his eyes this morning and saw that his alarm didn't go off, giving him a clear sign that he had to hurry if he didn't want to be late for work. This meant that there was no time for his morning coffee, which usually gave him some motivation for the day.
Displeased with this fact, he opened the fridge to at least grab something to eat before leaving, but as soon as his eyes met the empty shelves, he knew that there would be no breakfast either. Unless he found something in the cabinets that was fit to eat, which he honestly doubted.
However, to Seungmin's surprise, he managed to find two rice cakes in one of the cabinets. Without even thinking about how long they had been there, he started eating them while rushing to the hallway, where he put on his coat and shoes with one cake still in his mouth. Then he quickly left the apartment. As he descended the stairs, he checked the time once again, and to his disappointment, he discovered that if he chose his usual route to work, he would definitely be late. He had to go through the park...
He hated going there, all because of the institution located there, affectionately called the devil's lair by Seungmin, while others preferred to call it a preschool.
Although he thought its name was more appropriate, because after all, all the noise and commotion those kids could create were hellish to him, although many people disagreed with him.
"People are strange," he thought as he stood in front of the park entrance, taking a deep breath before starting to walk faster towards the café where he worked. Seungmin hurried through the park as quickly as possible, and his steps quickened even more when not even a minute passed and the joyful screams of those monsters reached his ears. What's worse, with every step, they were getting louder, which wasn't surprising since he was getting closer to the institution.
At some point in his march, it started to snow. Which was probably the only good thing about his day. Seungmin really loved winter, and snow was one of its most important indicators for him.
With a slight smile, he closed his eyes, stopping and reaching out his hand to catch a snowflake, which dissolved in his palm after a moment.
A sigh of relief escaped his lips. Seungmin opened his eyes with a constant smile and looked around the park to see how much more he had left to go. To his surprise, he was literally in front of the preschool. He got so lost in his march that he didn't even realize he had arrived. Interestingly, the screams he heard earlier were not as loud anymore, which was quite strange to him.
Out of curiosity, he looked around and seeing no one, he approached the fence a little closer to see what was happening inside. And so, looking through a large window, he saw a group of children starting to surround one of the caregivers, at the sight of which Seungmin froze.
"Cute."
That was the first thought that came to his mind at the sight of the boy with beautiful fox-like eyes and even more beautiful dimples. He was simply perfect, sweet, almost impossibly perfect. Seungmin was really surprised by his thoughts because he had never thought this way about anyone before; it was really unusual for him.
Snowflakes continued to fall on him as he stood there, mesmerized by the caregiver in the window. Only after a good few minutes was he able to shake himself, clapping his hands on his cheeks as if his soul had returned to his body. Seungmin stood there for a few more seconds, giving himself time to calm his heartbeat, and only after his body's condition stabilized somewhat, he continued on, but the feeling in his stomach still hadn't passed, and his cheeks were getting redder with every step.
"What just happened?" he asked himself as he left the park, not caring that despite his efforts, he was still late for work.
Meanwhile...
For some time now, Jisung had been playing with his toy cars, making various strange noises that he thought resembled engine sounds, laughing every time he moved on "grass" instead of the carpet, considering it perfect shortcuts that his uncle often used.
His play would probably continue if at some point he hadn't seen white fluff start falling from the sky, which made the preschooler quickly rush to the window, standing on tiptoes to see what was happening outside.
And while the boy was busy grinning at the sight out the window, his friend Hyunjin had already returned from the bathroom, helping their caregiver Jeongin carry the second tray of fruit for the children. Needless to say, the other children immediately surrounded them, eager to get their portion of food as soon as possible.
-JiJi, come on!- his friend called out, but Jisung didn't react, too absorbed in the winter scenery outside.
-Jinnie, put the tray on the table and make sure nobody eats Jisung's portion, okay?
Hearing the instruction from their teacher, Hyunjin immediately complied, placing the smaller tray on the table and taking two portions for himself and the other boy. Then he went to their table, which they always occupied with Jisung, and waited for him to finish looking at the snow outside.
Which didn't happen quickly, because currently the 4-year-old, instead of looking at the snow, was staring at a certain man outside, who was looking into the window where Jisung currently stood. Thinking that the man was looking at him, Jisung began waving at him with a big smile, but the man didn't wave back, which made the boy pout, but he still didn't give up his attempts to get the man's attention, waving at him more vigorously.
The caregiver, concerned about this sight, squatted next to Jisung with a questioning look.
-Sungie, what are you doing?- Jeongin asked gently, which startled the boy a bit, causing him to jump at the sudden voice.
-Oh, Innie hyung! That man is naughty, he doesn't want to wave back to me- he complained, to which the caregiver looked even more questioningly at the window, but he didn't see anyone there.
-But Sungie, there's no one there
-What?!
Surprised, the preschooler also looked in that direction and pouted when he didn't see the man there either.
-Not fair, he went away- the boy crossed his arms on his chest, annoyed at the man outside, while Jeongin laughed at how cute the kid was, then picked him up and sat him at the table where Hyunjin was already waiting.
-Eat lots of carrots, okay?
Jeongin continued to laugh as he left the boys to see if the other children had already eaten.
-Finally, JiJi, do you know how long I've been waiting for you? I was so bored...
Jisung momentarily forgot about the mean man outside and laughed at his friend's dramatics.
-Sorry, Jinnie, but the snow!
-The snow is cold, JiJi, so it's bad... but never mind, look!
Excited, the taller boy reached into his backpack and pulled out a LEGO set, from which they could build a mega super airplane.
-Wow, that's awesome, Jinnie!
-Isn't it?
Hyunjin hugged the box.
-Dad bought it for me and promised that today we'll build it together!
-I'm jealous!
-Tell your dad to buy you one too!
-Okay
Both of them smiled broadly at each other, but they stopped when a shadow appeared over their table.
-Have you boys finished eating? Because if not, there won't be any brownies- Felix warned, seeing that most of their food was untouched. The threat quickly worked, as soon after the boys were devouring their food, not wanting to miss the opportunity to eat Lixie hyung's brownies
