Terry
This was just brilliant. The bus Pete and Patrick were on had broken down and our driver had stopped to help repair it. I sat next to Pete on the ground, having a smoke.
"Hey, so did you and Joe talk about what happened at the last show?"
"Yeah. We talked. Then Ashley phoned and Joe overhead the conversation."
Pete whistled and took a sip of his beer, I was joining him with one. "So he knows about your engagement?"
"He even confirmed he knew it was me. He had this determined look in his eyes, like he wants to prove me wrong about men. He needs to let it go. I don't need more cheating men in my life."
Pete looked at me, "You think Joe would cheat on you? Ter, in the time he was married, he never cheated on Marie once. If Joe's one thing, it's loyal. Why won't you give him a chance? You and him could work out really great. I think so, at least."
I looked at him for a minute then just sipped my beer and lit a second smoke, saying nothing. Pete snickered, "Chain smoking Ter? He's already gotten under your skin."
"No!"
Joe had walked up to us now, "No, what?"
I slid my sunglasses over my face, "the conversation started before you got here and ended with the "No." No use starting it all over again."
Joe took a seat next to me. Great, I was where almost every fan girl would cut off one of their limbs to be in. Except I wouldn't willingly be wedged between Pete and Joe. Maybe Pete and Patrick; they were good conversation. Joe made me feel nervous and I think he sensed that, so he moved in closer, took my beer out my hand and took a swig. "Smart ass, drinking on the job."
"Give me a break, Joe. I am beyond stressed. Pete, do you think maybe I should call like, a breakdown service?"
Pete waved off my concerns, "Nah sweety. Chill, these guys have it under control. Just sit your pretty little self here while I go grab us another round. You want one Joe?"
Joe raised my now empty bottle as a yes and Pete was off, leaving myself and Joe alone. "So, Terry, you've been all kinds of awkward around me since yesterday."
I shrugged, "Really? I hadn't noticed."
He removed my sunglasses, and clipped them onto the front of my top. Very handsy. "Terry, I like you and I want to get to know you."
I killed my smoke and looked at him directly in the eye, feeling extremely hot and bothered by his gaze. "Joe, I like me too and I work for you."
He laughed and put an arm around me, whipping out his cellphone. "Selfie!" He shouted.
I threw up a zap sign and he kissed my cheek. After a few minutes of fiddling around, my phone pinged with a Twitter notification. I opened it up, fearing the worst. "Bus broke down, stuck with @tfieldzay having a brew." With it, was the picture Joe had just taken.
"Joe, why'd you do that?"
He shrugged, "I don't know. Making memories I guess. And I think it's a cool picture."
Pete came out the bus with a six pack of beers. "Nice photo guys!"
Pete joined us and we took a few more crazy photos which were tweeted and Patrick and Andy joined us. By the end of our photo session, I was sitting on Joe's lap, with my arms around his neck laughing away. He looked down at me and just stared. I felt myself blushing deeply and was saved by the sound of the faulty bus's engine roaring to life.
