Joe
I was pacing my room nervously. Not only did I have to worry about Terry being upset but her reaction to the fact that Marie would be at the show tonight so that her and I could discuss arrangements. She knew about me seeing someone new and was happy for me, she said I looked boyishly happy again and hoped that somehow we could all work together to raise the baby.
I had to give Marie that; she was being mature and logical about the situation. She had said the baby would spend three months with each of us and we would approve on a nanny together, I gladly agreed and would be supporting my child financially.
In the middle of my train of thought, a knock at the door threw me off. I jumped to open it, hoping sincerely it would be Terry.
I was right. God, she looked drop dead gorgeous. My face must have shown I was completely in awe because she said my mouth was catching flies. I giggled uncomfortably and told her to come in.
As an icebreaker, I chose to comment on how she looked, "You look really beautiful tonight. Are the tattoos real?"
She dropped her jacket and turned around, revealing one more on her back, then lifted up the bottom of her top, revealing another. "May I?" I asked.
She nodded hesitantly and I traced the grim reaper on her left hip. It was beautifully done. I then walked around her and looked down into her top (bonus!) seeing that what I had seen was the hilt of a sword. I walked around again and traced the top half of a tribal totem that ran in the crease between her chest when I realised I was probably getting too touchy feely and took her left hand and looked at the two letters on it. "P.W."
My mind jumped to Pete. I was about to freak out and she must have noticed because she giggled. "My half brothers initials. He has T.F. tattooed on his left wrist too. We're really close. And Pete is not my half brother. If he were, I would have found a way to kill him as a teenager already."
I breathed a sigh of relief. "How come you never talk about your brother?"
She shifted around me and took a seat on my bed, "Same reason I don't talk about my friends being celebrities. People would start to think I rode on coat tails to get where I am. All my brothers celebrity status did was afford me a better education which he still made me pay him back for. He made it on his own and pushed me to work hard for what I wanted. I'm really grateful for it."
That was a new side of Terry, just another reason she was exactly the woman I needed. She'd never let me just be comfortable but push me to always strive for more. I needed to clarify things with her. "Okay, so the elephant in the room is that in five months, I'll be a father."
She looked at me with a pained smile, "I have to apologise for how I reacted and congratulate you. I'm sure you and Marie will be great parents."
I felt my jaw drop again, "You're apologising to me? Jesus, you're an even better woman than I already knew you were. Look, Marie and I are not going to reconcile. We're going to co-parent and be very amicable but she saw pictures of us on Twitter and Instagram and she says she's really happy I'm with someone who makes me look that happy. She wants us all to be involved in the babies upbringing. She is coming to the show tonight..."
It was Terry's turn for her jaw to drop, "Is Marie sure? I mean, I don't know how many woman would be so gracious or mature."
"If there's one thing that Marie is, it's mature. Talk to her. Maybe hang out a little. Get to know her."
Terry merely nodded. I continued on with my speech. "I wanted to ask you to officially be my girlfriend today. I know that the events of last night make the timing really awful but I'm going to ask you to think about it while we're on our break and maybe by the time we're on the road again, give me answer?"
