Terry

After a full body massage and hot stone massage, Marie and I headed for the spa center's café for lunch. It was quite entertaining; I got to watch a model scarf sunny side up eggs at the rate of a leopard flying across grasslands in Africa. I couldn't suppress a laugh as I picked at my meze platter.

"I probably look like a clown. I guess my cravings are eggs and hot chocolate. I can't stop. It's a real problem."

I brushed her comment off, "You'll be fine. You're carrying low and more on your backside. My grandmother always said that means it's a girl."

She stopped eating. It was this point that I realised my comment could be taken as offensive. Turns out, she stopped eating to respond? "I know right? My gran also said the same and my ass is huge!"

We laughed a little but then the conversation turned serious, "Look Terry, I know how awkward this must be, especially in a new and uncertain relationship. But I want Joe to be part of the babies life, and, if you do decide to take him up on being his girlfriend, I want us to work together in raising the baby."

I was shocked at how gracious she was, I couldn't say anything but nod. She continued on, "I get this is a huge amount of pressure. I wanted you to come with to the sonogram?"

I was really, really shocked. "Are you sure? I mean, I would go but don't you want it to be just you and Joe?"

She shook her head, "We'll be that family with two mom's and maybe one day two dad's."

This suddenly reminded me, "Speaking of, Paul was quite taken by you yesterday and asked me for your number. I said I would have to check if it's okay by you first."

Marie blushed deeply, "Wow! Sure!"

We finished our lunch and ended our day with manicures and pedicures and left the spa smiling.

I got home to my brother cleaning the house. "Hey big bro, what's happening?"

"You, my darling sister, need to hurry up and get ready for your date while I get ready for mine with Marie."

I smiled, "Don't you find this a little weird?"

"That I'm dating my half-nieces mother? No." he grinned as he stated the obvious.

I flipped him off and walked into the room I was staying in. I selected a black tule mini skirt and black heels (yes, I was self-conscious about the height difference between Joe and I) and paired it with a black v-neck t-shirt, leaving my hair loose and putting on my usual jewelry and make-up when there was a knock at my door. "Come in!"

Marie walked in wearing a long knit jersey paired with stockings and pumps. "Girl, you look amazing! You're so much more Joe's type."

This felt awkward for me, I just shrugged and kissed her cheek. "Better be off! I hate being late and I don't know where it is yet."

She brushed the comment off, "You'll find it easily enough. It's not too far from here. Have fun!"

Joe

I opened the door and in front of me stood Terry, again, dressed to kill. "What did I do to deserve such a stylish lady?"

She pecked my lips softly, "It's the hair. Chicks dig the hair." (a chapter dedicated to whoever gets the reference ;))

I laughed at her reference and I showed her into the kitchen where I'd set up our dinner. We could eat an informal dinner and just hang out. We ate, had a few beers and ended up chilling in the lounge. I asked her how things went with Marie.

"Really well, she and I got along well. We were discussing going to the sonogram tomorrow."

I choked on my beer, "You're coming with? That's amazing!"

She nodded. "Yes I am. She thought it would be a good idea to see if I was committed enough to do this. Oh, and she's dating Paul."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Wow, we are all kinds of fucked up dysfunctional. My girlfriends brother is dating my ex-wife who's having my baby."

Terry's eyebrows raised, "I'm not your girlfriend."

I cupped her face in one hand and drew her closer towards me with the other then leaned in, not quite kissing her but speaking against her lips. "Oh yeah?"

She giggled, "Yeah!"

Just then, my phone interrupted this perfect moment. It was a number I didn't recognise. "Joe! Come quick to the hospital. Marie was in a car crash two blocks away from my house. A car rammed into her at an intersection."

Terry's eyes were wide, hearing what her brother had said. She jumped up and got her stuff. "Hurry! I'll drive."
