Melody's POV
As I walked out the door I heard a sigh from my father and my mother sobbed. I wiped away my tears as I unlocked my car and slowly opened the back door before opening the suit cases. I found the one with books and journals from my dad's mom, my favorite grandma. I smiled to myself and looked at the other one full of clothes and such. I sighed as I closed that one and grabbed the address book from the other before closing it and tossing both suit cases in the back. I got into the driver seat and started the car and opened the address book. Only one address, that's weird I entried the address into my phones.

"16 hours away!" I shouted and then sighed well here goes nothing I guess. I shook my head as my eye began to water again but I blinked the tears away and put my seat belt on before putting the car in drive and speeding from the curb.

I was driving for what felt like forever thankfully I was half way there but it was midnight. I saw a sign for the next exit to a small town, I took it hoping the motel was cheap. I decided to stop at the gas station and grab some gas snacks and drinks, before making my way to the nice looking motel a few blocks over. I parked in the entrance way, and quickly ran inside.

"Good evening ma'am, how may I help you?" A sweet voice spoke behind the counter. A small fragile lady smiled kindly at me. I returned the favor before asking if she had any rooms available. "Of course dear, I can give you room 104, how long will you be staying? " she replied clicking away on her computer.

"Just till check out time, I'm just taking a rest before I get back on the road." I smiled softly and she nodded before clicking in her computer and placed a key on the counter.

"There's a parking spot in front of your room, and cheack out time is 11am,we also do a breakfast burrito thing from 9:30-11:00am" she said kindly and I smiled and walked out the door and got back into my car starting it again. I drove the short distance and parked my car in front of 104, I grabbed my purse, both suit cases and quickly got those into the room before going back to lock up the car and grab my snacks and drinks. As I locked up the car, I grabbed my phone from my pocket and noticed a text from an unknown number, but it was from 4 hours ago. I sighed before opening my door to the room. I closed and locked the door and set my bag of goodies on the bed and grabbed the suit case with all the journals. I opened up a bag of hot Cheetos and began read the first journal.

I read the first few pages before sighing and putting the journal back, it didn't make sense. My grandma wrote to me like she knew something was bond to happen, the night of my 18th birthday would be the first transition. But it didn't explain into what on those first few pages. I closed the suit case and place it next to me on the big bed. I opened my phone again as I continued eating my chips. Finally reading the message, I gasped.

Unknown
'I know you're headed this way, please dont be driving when nightfall hits. As it is your birthday and you will have your first transition. You are not a beast dear, something way more powerful and beautiful is within you. You will soon find out who I am. All I can say for now is you're going to be okay'

How did they get my number? I questioned as I just stared at the message. I put away my chips and quickly cleaned my hands before getting ready to sleep. I didn't want to think about everything right now it was all too confusing to figure out on my own. I need help, I sighed and took off my pants before turning out the lights, climbing into bed I exited the message on my phone before setting an alarm for 8:30am. It was 1:45am by the time I was ready to sleep soundly.

I awoke to the sound of my phone ringing I groaned and rolled over opening my eyes I found my phone. It wasn't ringing from my alarm no, the unknown number was calling.

"Hello?" I said sleepily into the phone it was 8:15, they couldn't wait 15 minutes to call.

"Hello, is this Melody?" A women's voice rang through the phone she sounded elegant like an older lady.

"This is her, um may I ask who you are?" I questioned into the phone. I heard a light chuckle.

"Well dear I would have thought you would recognize my voice. But then again it's been years." She said into the phone I could hear the smile in her voice. There's no way, my parents told me she passed away when I was 10.

"Grandma?!" I said sitting up quickly in the bed. "But they said you were gone." I whispered and remembered the day I was told I didn't have my grandma anymore.

I was out back playing with the stary cats that I started feeding against my parents wishes. My mother came out hand in hand with father as they slowly walked towards me.

"Sweetheart, we need to tell you something" father said softly and offered me his hand. I grabbed it and he lead me to our bench by the back door. "Melody, im so sorry we don't know how we are supposed to tell you this but Grandma Belle is no longer with us" as the words left his mouth I felt a pain in my chest and began bawling my eyes out. Mother engulfed me in her arms and stroked my hair.

"I didn't get to say goodbye" my voice was shaky and just above a whisper. My best friend was gone, and I didn't have anyone.

"Melody, hunny are you listening?" I heard her soft voice ask from the phone line.

"I'm sorry grandma, I was lost in thought. I wasn't listening." I said truthfully.

"It's alright hunny, but it's time for you to shower and get back on the road. I need you to make it here before night fall. Before the first transition. I don't want you to be alone okay?" She said softly. What is everyone taking about. What transition?

"Grandma what's happening?" I asked and she sighed over the phone.

"No time to explain. Now go shower and get back on the road. I will see you in a few hours." She said and with that she hung up.
