Y/N POV:

Four weeks in at Harvard, and I'm feeling right at home. With Jisoo, Jungkook, and Taehyung as my dorm mates, every day is an adventure. Even though Jimin and I still butt heads sometimes, I'm loving my classes and soaking up everything this new chapter has to offer. It's been a whirlwind, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Knowing Jisoo, Jk, Tae, and I were all in the same health medicine department, I didn't take too much time to figure out that so was Park Jimin. He was literally in 3 out of the 4 classes I even had!!! Ugh! Like imagine the rare chance and probability of that happening and yet, it did.

I genuinely wouldn't mind building a good relationship with Jimin, but it feels like he's putting up barriers at every turn. I'm usually pretty open to socializing with anyone I come across—it's just part of who I am. But his unnecessary coldness just makes it so difficult to warm up to him.

Within seconds, the bell blared, jolting me out of my thoughts. Hastily, I made my way to class, backpack casually slung over my right shoulder. I pulled Jisoo along with me; she was engrossed in reapplying her fresh Laneige lip tint, the color reminiscent of cotton candy.

Soon lecture hall buzzed with anticipation as the rest of the class settled into their seats for the Science Medical Terminology class.

AUTHOR POV:

Y/n and Jisoo hurried to their usual location, the middle section of the right side, while Jimin had occupied a spot somewhere near the front. Unfortunately, for the two rivals, they had a perfect view of each other.

Without wasting more minutes, the professor quickly set in motion with the words.

"Good morning, everyone! Before we dive into today's lecture, I have some exciting news to share. Harvard University is offering a unique opportunity this year—the chance to become the 'Student Representative of the Year.' You'll be evaluated based on your academic achievements, participation in extracurricular activities, engagement in class, overall performance, and behavior. Teachers will award points for standout moments, and the student with the highest tally at the end will claim the award and the prestigious position. Any questions?"

The room fell silent as everyone processed the weight of the announcement, but it wasn't long before whispers and gasps filled the air. The concept was entirely new to their school, igniting a spark of excitement among the students.

10 MINUTES LATER

As the professor spoke into the lecture, Y/n and Jimin subtly exchanged glances. Without words, an understanding passed between them—they were competing for more than just grades. The unspoken challenge transformed the lecture into a silent battlefield, each question becoming a potential victory.

The professor, unaware of the brewing rivalry, posed a question about a complex medical term. Y/n, quick on the uptake, raised her hand, a confident smile playing on her lips. "The term you're referring to is 'pharmacokinetics,' which explores how the body processes drugs over time."

Jimin, not one to be outdone, promptly raised his hand for the next question. "And 'pharmacodynamics' complements that, focusing on the effects of drugs on the body and the mechanisms of drug action."

The questions continued, and the subtle competition escalated. Y/n's responses were precise, showcasing her in-depth knowledge.

"Can anyone define 'iatrogenic'?" the professor asked.

"Iatrogenic refers to an adverse condition or side effect caused by medical treatment or intervention," Y/n answered.

Jimin, seizing the opportunity to add a layer, continued, "It's crucial to recognize iatrogenic effects as they can significantly impact patient outcomes, often leading to a reassessment of treatment strategies."

The professor nodded in approval, impressed by Jimin's insightful addition.

"Define 'idiopathic,'" the professor requested.

"Idiopathic means a condition or disease that arises spontaneously or for which the cause is unknown," Jimin replied.

Y/n, determined not to be overshadowed, added, "Identifying idiopathic conditions poses a unique challenge in medicine, requiring extensive research to uncover the underlying factors."

As the lecture progressed, it became apparent that the entire class was witnessing an unspoken duel. Y/n and Jimin seamlessly navigated the intricate web of medical terms, each displaying an impressive command of the subject matter.

The professor, still oblivious to the underlying competition, marveled at the enthusiasm displayed by the students. Little did they know, every correct answer was a strategic move in the quiet chess game between Y/n and Jimin, each determined to outshine the other.

The competition for earning "Student of the Year" had just begun. Although the entire school was fighting for this amazing award title, in the minds of Jimin and Y/n, they both were their biggest competitors.
