THE NEXT DAY AT SCHOOL

The common room buzzed with the gentle hum of the overhead lights, while students scattered around, lost in their own worlds. It was their free time, a chance to catch up on Biochem homework. Y/n slouched over her laptop, staring intently at a tricky problem. Her forehead creased with effort as she tried to make sense of the complex molecular puzzle on the screen.

Jimin lounged in an armchair nearby, absorbed in his tablet. Y/n took a deep breath and decided to break the unspoken tension that usually lingered between them.

"Jimin," she began, cautiously, "I'm stuck on this biochemistry problem. Do you mind helping me out?"

Jimin tore his gaze away from the tablet, seemingly uninterested, but he reluctantly leaned over to inspect the problem on Y/n's laptop.

"Don't see why I should help you but fine, what's the issue?" he mumbled, his tone betraying his lack of enthusiasm.

Y/n pointed to a complex set of chemical reactions involving enzymes and substrates. "I'm struggling to figure out the intermediate state here. Something just doesn't add up."

Jimin scanned the problem for a moment and then casually suggested, "It's simple. Follow the reaction sequence. The intermediate forms naturally."

Y/n, though, couldn't simply accept his answer. As she attempted to follow Jimin's advice, a frown crept onto her face. "No, this can't be right. There's a flaw in this logic," she declared, her determination evident.

Jimin sighed, displaying mild annoyance. "You're insufferable, you know that? Always questioning everything."

"I won't accept an answer that doesn't make sense. Why settle for mediocrity?" Y/n retorted, her frustration pushing her to challenge Jimin's assistance.

Jimin leaned back in his chair, an incredulous smirk playing on his lips. "Why do you always have to be such a know-it-all, Y/n? Can't you just accept help without turning it into a debate.?".

Y/n shot him an irritated glance. "I don't recall asking for your opinion, Jimin. I just needed extra help on a problem but even your explanation wouldn't make sense, and you can't back it up.
I'm perfectly capable of handling things myself."

"Handling things? You're just making a mess as usual," he retorted with a dismissive scoff.

Rolling her eyes, Y/n continued typing on her laptop. "You might actually learn something if you weren't so busy being an arrogant loner."

Jimin scoffed again. "Arrogant? Coming from someone who thinks the world revolves around their every whim."

"Well, at least I don't go around with a chip on my shoulder, pretending I'm too good for everyone else," Y/n shot back, her patience wearing thin.

Even though both of them are engaged in the salty conversation that seems sort of meaningless, neither can back down.

Jimin leaned forward in his armchair, a defiant glint in his eyes. "You act like you know everything, but it's just a facade, isn't it? Deep down, you're as lost as everyone else."

Y/n's jaw clenched, her frustration boiling over. "Lost? I'm not the one wandering through life with a closed mind. Maybe if you opened yours once in a while, you'd see beyond your own arrogance."

A sarcastic chuckle escaped Jimin's lips. "Arrogance, knowledge—what's the difference? You're just trying to prove something, and I couldn't care less."

Their clash of words echoed through the common room, drawing the attention of a few curious onlookers. Y/n, fueled by a desire to dismantle Jimin's indifference, continued to challenge his every statement.
