A woman lived happily thanks to a magical goose that laid golden eggs. But one day greed overcame her. In desire for quicker riches, she slaughtered the goose and sliced it open, only to find nothing inside. And so her source of sustenance was lost through overindulgence.
We too, in blind gluttony, often kill the goose that gives meaning to life. Yet to its very end, the goose kept providing. So too, life offers goodness if we accept it with gratitude rather than greed.
May this parable remind us, whenever tempted by excess: appreciate the blessings you have. Restrain reckless desire. Nurture the true sources of fulfillment. In this way, we gain far more than gluttony's false promises can deliver.
