isa di angelo has a rough past, things haven't always gone her way but getting into the bau was a good thing, it was supposed to be her time to shine but she's less excited about that honour when she realises that they hired a new member to the team...

it was nearly midnight when isabelle di angelo ran through the woods, thick clots of blood in her hair, dripping into her eyes. she wasn't lost or that was what she kept telling herself. she was losing a lot of blood, not only did she have a puncture wound on her head, she had been stabbed, three times to be precise but that was fine, she had plenty more blood to go around. right?
after a long run, she fell on her back, exhausted. she wouldn't have the higher ground if she was laying in dirt but that didn't matter. she hadn't just been any twenty two year old, she was a trained fbi agent, even when the odds weren't in her favor, she would always find a way to end up on top.
she heard her assailant approach, heard his footsteps, heard his heavy breathing as she silenced her own, reaching for her weapon.
"come out wherever you are, little girl," the large strips of corn had hidden her from his sight but it wouldn't be long until he stumbled upon her and when he does, he gets three bullets in the chest. he falls on top of her and her breath catches in her throat.
"di angelo!" she heard hotch call her name, she opened her mouth to call to him but her words had been stuck at the back of her throat like her breath. she heard him draw near and when his name finally left her bloody lips, it had barely been above a whisper but he found her. pulling the man off her body. she felt the air force itself back down her throat, filling her lunges when she felt him pull her to her feet.
"agent down, agent down." he repeated, his arm wrapping around her body. he lifted her off her feet, the fight wasn't meant to be that bloody. she wasn't meant to get hurt. it was a simple mission, meet the man in the woods, capture him and bring him in but he didn't want to go in without a fight and she seemed to be the easiest target. the fight escalated when he tackled her to the ground. he hit her twice before she got the upper hand, the two of them rolling in the dirt. she was barely on her feet for five seconds when she felt a rock hit her head, she turned hastily, slightly swaying as she realized how far they were from her team.
she barely remembered the rest of the fight, now all she saw was a bright light. "stay with me, isa." she felt a hand on her stomach, heard a familiar voice. "archie." her eyes fluttered open, she smiled at the familiar face.
"can't die on me now, you still owe me a beer." she felt something burn he wound, she moved back in pain and her friend held her down on the bed. "just breathe this in." he placed a mask over her face and she breathed in the gas, it wasn't long until she was fast asleep.
her body arches when she wakes up, she's greeted with a group of people all staring at her. she doesn't say anything, the first person to hug her is garcia. "you're alive," she gripped the young girl tightly, isa didn't know what to do so she held her friend with one arm, "garcia, give her some space." she hears hotch speak up as garcia places a kiss on top of the girl's head. isa wasn't very affectionate but she liked when garcia gave her forehead kisses, they seemed to ground her when her mind was worlds away.
"im just so happy to see my sweet angel is alright." garcia peppers the girl's forehead with kisses, only gaining a weak smile from the wounded girl.
"maybe we should visit one at a time." emily started, gripping the girl's hand as she looked over at her friend. she nodded and the team made their way out the door, waving at her as garcia stayed behind. she slid onto the bed, isa wrapped an arm around her friend as she stared at the ceiling.
"you had a seizure in the ambulance," garcia's voice is barely above a whisper, isa's fingers going through her friend's hair, trying to calm the woman.
isa didn't remember what happened after she passed out, she just remembers seeing black until her eyes opened again. she was still in pain, her recently stitched up wounds still ached and so did her limbs from the running and the fighting. she rested her cheek on garcia's and that hurt, the pink bruise still delicate. "archie thought you were going to die and i was so... so worried." garcia runs her fingers along the girl's arm, isa had her eyes shut as she tried to steady her body. she had known garcia for two years, for as long as she worked for the bau. garcia was her best friend.
"hotch wants you to stay home for a while."
"i can't." she sat up straight, groaning as she grips her side. the pain was slowly building up again. she needed morphine, her body craved it. she didn't want to hurt anymore but she knew it was her own actions that landed her where she was. "this is an all hands on deck situation."
"fine, then a week."
"two days."
"you have to tell hotch that." garcia rested her head on her friend's shoulder when the door opens and emily sticks her head through the door. "can she stay?" isa patted the seat beside her bed and emily took it. emily nods and garcia makes herself comfortable, closing her eyes and listening to the sound of isa's breathing, a peaceful sound.
"you did a good job." the words broke down the walls around isa's heart. all she wanted was approval from people who had been slightly older than her, it didn't matter if it was five years or ten, she lived for the validation. she hated disappointing her team members.
"we have to get mr scratch." she spoke weakly, it had been a few months since about a hundred criminals escaped from a variety of prisons and it was up to them to recapture them. the team was under tremendous pressure, the longer the criminals were out on the straight, the more dangerous it was to the public. "and we will but a week off won't hurt. archie will be there with you." emily's eyes softened on the girl who looked through the glass window to where her team members were all waiting to see her.
"a week won't hurt." she gave a small smile, maybe a week away from work won't be too bad after all.
