Chapter 11

The Kivistas find out about Chiara and Violeta when they hit the six-month mark of their relationship. It's not intentional, really – at least on Violeta's behalf. It happens at a little concert they did together with Ruslana.

Everything had gone according to plan – the three were performing their new songs and guest-narrator Julia Medina was hilarious. Then Violeta and Chiara surprised the audience with a special performance, they sang 'I kissed a girl'.

Then it happens. After the song Chiara leans in, her lips brush against Violeta's own, and Violeta momentarily forgets where she is.

She's wrapped up in green eyes and pink cheeks and the way that Chiara's lips feel against her own. She instinctively moves her hand to cup the black-haired cheek, smiling into the embrace.

And then there's screaming. Not just a single scream, but an entire sea of screaming and cheering and whistling and –

Oh. Violeta remembers where she is. She pulls away from Chiara and frowns at the ridiculous grin on her girlfriend's face.

"Oopth," Chiara shrugs helplessly.

Violeta wonders if it's possible for someone to actually die of embarrassment. She tries to think of a witty one-liner to get the audience to laugh at the situation, but she can't think of one. All she can see is the endless glow of lights of recording phones. She imagines that in less than two minutes, Twitter will be swimming with low-quality, barely recognizable videos and photos of herself and Chiara.

"Ruski!" Ruslana's voice breaks through Violeta's internal panic attack and Violeta turns her head just in time to see Ruslana grab Chiara and pull her in for a kiss.
