I knew you,
playing lyre in the meadow,
running into battle,
haunting my every daydream,
dying in my nightmares,
hiding in the mountain caves,
wishing the world away,
training in the summer sun,
sailing across the sea.
I knew you.

You knew me,
talking to my ghosts at night,
waiting for fate to come,
sharpening my sword and spear,
polishing my battle gear,
lying under all the stars,
praying for miracles,
avoiding my destiny,
hoping for some relief.
You knew me.

I knew you,
wanting an eternity,
following me to war,
dressing in my best armor,
burning on your own pyre,
whispering, "most beloved,"
swearing to wait for me,
stalking me as a spirit,
pleading with me to sleep.
I knew you.

You knew me,
guarding your body's bedside,
sitting vigil all night,
shaking the sea with my sobs,
lighting the world on fire,
forcing fate's hand for vengeance,
racing around the walls,
fighting the doomed Trojan prince
falling at an arrow.
You knew me.

I knew you,
wandering the Underworld
finding you in the dark,
mingling both our ashes,
begging to be as one,
meeting in Elysium,
drowning in ecstasy,
shining brighter than the sun,
dripping gold at my touch.
I knew you.
And you knew me.
