The Shinigami Protection Squad

Sayu:

What!

Who's following you? Why are they following you? Do you need Ryuk and me to come to you?

Ryuk says he'll beat the person up if they try anything.

Light:

I'm fine, Sayu. I have Rem with me. I'm nearly home, so don't worry about me. I'll be fine.

Sayu:

If they try anything, they have two angry Shinigamis and one pissed-off human to deal with.

Why would someone be following you? Did your first stalker have friends who are coming after you?

Light:

I don't think it's that simple. If this stalker has anything to do with the first one, then it's more likely he would've done something by now; however, they haven't. I think there is something else to it.

Sayu:

Like what?

Ryuk said he doesn't like this. He's worried that Kira's behind this. Which I guess it could be. If Kira has somehow discovered that we both have the death notes, they might want to take them from us or convince us to use them to help their cause.

Light stared at Sayu's message. Could Kira have found them that quickly? If their Shinigami knew that Ryuk was down here with two humans, they could've passed that information on to Kira. Still, there have been multiple occasions when Light's been by himself that he could've approached him or even tried to kill him, but nothing.

"Light. This stalker seems to be writing notes on you in his notebook?" Rem said. Notes? He's observing him, which isn't typical stalker behaviour. Actually, it sounded like he's being investigated. Light changed course, heading towards the closest park and sat on the bench.

"Is he still following?" Light said.

"Yes," Rem said. Whoever was following him had to be a police officer, but who? Someone from the NPA or an outside agency. If Light could get their name, he could use his connections to find out what agency they work for. He could use his eyes, but Light doesn't want that; he doesn't want to rely on them. He doesn't like seeing people's names and lifespans floating above their heads; he never asked for these eyes. They are useful when he needs them, but for now, Light has years of experience solving cases without his eyes and won't let them make his job any easier. Now, how do we find out the man's identity?

"What are you planning?" Rem asked, but Light ignored her; he couldn't really talk much in public without making himself look crazy. An idea sparked in Light's mind, and he raised his phone to his ear.

"Hey, Sayu," Light said. His sister's voice didn't say anything, and she wouldn't; Light hadn't actually rang his sister or planned to.

"What do you mean the..." Light paused as if someone was responding, adding, "Don't touch anything. I'll be home in a moment."

Light stood up and rushed down the path; he saw the panicked look on the man's face but pretended he hadn't noticed him. As the man tried to remain hidden, he walked into the brick wall he'd been behind and fell into Light's path. Light kept going, walking straight into the man, sending them both to the floor.

"I'm so sorry," he said, moving away from the man.

"No, it's fine. I wasn't looking where I was going," the man said as he stood up and held his hand out to Light. Light stared at it before reluctantly taking it and letting the man pull him to his feet.
