Ryuga

Ryuga:

I know this will be the last thing on your mind, but will you still attend the To-Oh University entrance exams this Friday?

Light stared at the message; it was the first thing he'd heard from Ryuga since their kiss. A part of Light wondered whether Ryuga had regretted their kiss and would act as if nothing had happened the next time they'd see each other. Light hopes that isn't the case, that Ryuga didn't kiss him out of pity for being attacked by his stalker and mother. Can't one positive thing in his life work out for him?

Outside of that, Light hasn't given much thought to the entrance exams. He was essentially on the run from his parents; education was the last thing on his mind. He didn't even want to attend To-Oh University. He had only applied out of expectation of following in his father's footsteps rather than any desire to go. Zero had been such a big part of his life for the last two years, and it proved that he didn't need a university degree to get his dream job. He'd already achieved that.

To stay hidden, having a university presence would go against that, plus both his parents knew his entrance exam was on Friday. If they wanted to track him down, then they'd be there. Light knew he shouldn't, but deep down, he knew he would go. Being in university could provide him some form of protection if he ever takes his parents to court. He should get Sayu's opinion on this after essentially going behind her back to grab the Death Notes; he should see what she thinks about him going to university alongside their investigation or whether it would be wise for her to go back to school.

Light knew when he finally took his parents to court that it was technically only his mother he could get convicted of the abuse he and Sayu have suffered. He knew it would be tricky to get any conviction to stick against his father when he was absent for months on cases. Their mother is their biggest problem, and with Kira on the loose, Light can't see them running away from home getting in the way of their father working the Kira case. Now Light thought about it; he doubted their mother had even told him. Their mother was the issue; anything against their father could come later. Light had substantial evidence against their mother, and if Light wanted to keep Sayu away from her, he would also need their father to lose his parental rights to his sister. That shouldn't be hard with how dedicated he was to his job and not his children; he had enough to show how often their father was away from the house, which would essentially make him unfit to look after Sayu.

Light could also pretend to get a part-time job to pay for Sayu's expenses. He had enough money working as Zero that they could live comfortably for years to come, so providing for his sister wouldn't be an issue.

Ryuga

Light Yagami:

Yeah, I'll be there

"Light," Sayu said, pushing his office door open and coming inside. "Can I talk to you about something important?"

"Of course, what's wrong?" Light said, putting his phone in his pocket and turning his attention to his sister.

"I know this is probably stupid. After spending the last two days stuck here with nothing to do, I feel like I'm going crazy. I am working on this second Kira plan, and I feel ready to start putting it into action, but that's all I'm doing; that or I'm eating and sleeping. I know we must be careful until we're free of them, but I can't just sit around and do the same thing every day," Sayu said. Light nodded; he'd noticed his sister going a little stir-crazy. Sayu was very much an outgoing person and being trapped in their house and now here must be taking a toll on her. "I know school is the last thing I should be thinking about after everything we've been through and everything that's going to happen, but I think I need some normality and going to school is that for me."
