THEY SAY A PERSON ACHIEVES TRUE PEACE WHEN THEY SURRENDER TO LOVE IN ITS PUREST FORM, letting go of all else as they give in to the feeling of glee and adrenaline that accompanies it.
Nearly all viewed love as the epitome of selflessness but the truth was, a soul in love could be the most selfish of all, for in its desire to protect, it often brought doom and destruction upon others around them in its mission to hold on to what it held closest to its heart.
Ara Black and Harry Potter were, perhaps, two of the most selfless individuals to have existed in several lifetimes. However, even heroes are not immune to the passionate and fierce selfishness of love, they'd succumbed to each other and there was no coming back now. It was dangerous for people like them to care so much for someone when that person could very easily be stripped away the next day, which could send them into a spiral of grief and vengeance from which they'd never be able to crawl out of.
They weren't just each other's saving grace, they were their downfall.
Though Harry Potter wasn't thinking about any of that as of now, in fact, he could barely form a coherent thought at all as he felt his hand brush against another, a hand that had held his face, had traced the hairs a the back of his neck and cured him from all doubts he'd ever had.
He felt that hand lace its fingers with his and he finally dared to look sideways.
Ara Black couldn't contain the cheeky grin that stretched across her face; she'd never been one to be giggly and giddy but she supposed this is what most girls felt like when the guy they fancied reincorporated those feelings of longing. She'd never quite felt so. . .euphoric. She never wanted the feeling to end.
Harry stared at her profile as she bit her lip to try and calm her smile but it was useless and he himself couldn't hold back his own beaming expression. He held on tighter onto her hand, never tearing his gaze away from her as they walked through the empty halls of the castle. She still had her dirty uniform on, there was mud on her face and the cut above her eyebrow was still there along with the bandage on her shoulder. He'd never seen anything as ethereal as her.
Harry had experienced happiness before, of course he had. . .but the joyfulness he felt at this very moment was superior to anything else he'd ever felt before. His mind was clear of all those gloomy thoughts that haunted him, his scar wasn't throbbing, there wasn't even a dull ache, he felt as if he was living in a dream. If that was the case, he never wanted to wake up.
Fortunately, it wasn't a dream, it was real. He'd gotten Ara Black and now that he had her he'd never let her go. The girl that he'd for so long believed was too out of his league to even look at him in that way. He'd won. For once, he'd finally gotten something, someone, for himself.
"If you don't look ahead sometime soon you'll end up crashing into a pillar."
"Sure," was all he offered in return.
Ara chuckled as she brought them to a stop, looking up at him through her thick, dark lashes, her eyes dancing with amusement but also something that Harry hadn't seen in a long time, calmness.
"Did I break you, Bambi?" she whispered, reaching her good arm out and tugging him closer by the fabric of his shirt.
Now that her emotions had been laid bare, Ara didn't try to hide the fact that she was immensely attracted to her best friend. She didn't care if he saw her blush or if he caught her staring at him for too long. He made her nervous beyond fixing, but it was the good kind of nervous that sent shivers racing over her skin and left her stomach fluttering, an unfamiliar but thrilling sensation.
