Reunions and Unrelenting Dads
In the wake of Sam's death, you'd pushed Dean and Castiel's betrayal aside.
You and Maggie trailed behind Dean as you massaged your newly healed left palm.
After Castiel bore the news of the younger Winchester's death, Dean went silent for a moment, then went to the small opening from which Gabriel and Castiel were pulling rocks and started doing it himself. Gabriel shared an apprehensive look with you and Castiel and silently moved to help Dean. Maggie crowded against you and Castiel came over to heal your palm- the cool whoosh of the grace momentarily calmed your nerves and made you slightly dizzy.
Dean led the way as you exited the tunnel, not slowing down even to take a break. It had been five hours with no words exchanged.
The loss was heavy. Sam had become a friend to you. Someone you could trust- probably the only one you could've trusted in light of the other's betrayal. He and probably Gabriel but Gabriel was still an angel and that left him in a gray area. Looking at Dean's stiff back, you wished you could say something. Anything. But the shock left you silent. You keep seeing the blood spurting out, his flesh tearing as he struggled.
"Can we take a break?" Maggie whispers to you between pants. Your legs were also burning and you turned back to look at Castiel and Gabriel, trying to convey that you needed a break. They give a small nod and you gesture at Maggie to stop. As a relieved expression fills her face, you jog the five paces between you and Dean quickly, coming up to the side of him.
"Dean," you say softly, matching his strides. His head tilts but he does not answer. "Dean, it's been hours. We need a break."
He pauses, and turns back to see the three behind you stationary- or Maggie sitting against a tree, Gabriel kneeling beside her and moving the tip of his sword in the soil and Castiel standing. But their eyes were fixed on your exchange with Dean.
He's still silent. "Just- let's just take a few minutes, alright?"
Jaw clenched, he gives a tight nod. You grimace, heart sinking with no words to say. There was no one to blame for Sam's death. It was a risk to enter the tunnel and he paid for it with his life. He turns forward, back turned to the group, back turned from you. He wasn't looking at you at all. Nodding slightly, you walk back and slump next to Maggie at the tree, taking a sip of water from the bottle she offered.

The path leads to a small clearing. You'd never been to the camp at Dayton, but they probably followed the same procedure as the other camps as you look at the angel-warding sigils painted over planks of wood hung on the trees.
"We must be getting closer to Dayton," Maggie says. "Or at least the outskirts."
The sigils are effective immediately as Castiel groans and stops walking. You look at Gabriel who you were walking beside, frowning when you see that he doesn't flinch.
"Why isn't it working on you?" You ask.
"Oh, it is," he grimaces. "But, it's not as strong. It feels like- like a gust of wind is trying to knock me down." He walks past Maggie and Castiel to one of the sigils and places his hand on it. The markings light up and burn in a soft glow for a second.
"No!" You exclaim, glaring at Gabriel. "Why would you do that? You took away this camp's first line of defence-"
You cut off when three soldiers jump out from behind the trees, pointing huge guns at you. With a swear, you immediately put your hands up slightly, following the lead of Castiel and Gabriel.
